Brie Galicinao — Softball

Playing softball against Princeton must not be very fun for Penn. The umpires shout, "Play ball!" and the first Quaker batter walks to the batter's box. Three or four pitches later, she turns around and heads for the bench. She's out. Every time.

Their misery is all the fault of Princeton's junior pitcher Brie Galicinao. Last Saturday, Galicinao tossed a perfect game against Penn for the second year in a row. In the process, she struck out 14 batters, two-thirds of the number she faced in the seven-inning game.

She shut out Monmouth last Wednesday and gave up no earned runs in a 1-0 loss to St. Peters on Sunday, her sixth consecutive start in which she has not allowed an earned run. Her earned run average now stands at 0.66 — 10th in the nation and first in the Ivy League.

If the damage Galicinao did to the Quakers by pitching wasn't enough to make their weekend miserable, she added to it by ripping the ball when she stepped to the plate herself. As part of a four-run fourth inning in the second game of the doubleheader, Galicinao bashed a two-run homerun over the right-centerfield fence.

With that, she sent the Quakers home swept and wincing for the second year in a row.
