U-Council elects executive members

Adam Dressner '02 and Josh Anderson '04 were elected yesterday to serve as executive members of the Council of the Princeton University Community. Dressner will also serve as undergraduate chair of the committee.

The CPUC, often referred to as the U-Council, comprises faculty, staff, administrators, undergraduates, graduate students and alumni delegates and meets monthly.

"[The CPUC] includes representatives from every single constituency on campus," said Teddy Nemeroff '01, former U-Council chair. "It's the town meeting of the University."

Both newly elected members were chosen from the 10 current undergraduate members of the U-Council by the USG Senate. Dressner and Anderson will serve on the executive committees of both the USG and the U-Council.

As CPUC representatives of the undergraduate student body, Anderson and Dressner will be responsible for representing undergraduates to the U-Council and managing undergraduate issues, according to Nemeroff.

Apart from CPUC meetings, the undergraduate U-Councilors also serve as voting members of the USG Senate, which meets weekly.

The undergraduate executives of the CPUC are responsible for gathering and organizing the other eight undergraduate U-Councilors.

"We're responsible for making sure all the [undergraduate] U-Councilors come to [CPUC] meetings on the same page," Anderson said. "We may all have different opinions, but we discuss them before the meeting."

Neither Anderson's nor Dressner's appointment yesterday was much of a surprise, Nemeroff said. Dressner has served three terms on the U-Council, giving him more experience than any other current member.

Anderson cited his own "comprehensive viewpoint," a macroscopic vision, as a possible reason for his selection.

"You can't expect anything like this," Dressner said. "But I was definitely hoping for it and looking forward to it."

"I'm excited to be involved," Anderson said. "This is a great opportunity to take on a larger initiative."

Dressner said he will enjoy the opportunity to unite the efforts of all 10 undergraduate U-Councilors.

"In the past, the U-Councilors have done very successful projects on their own," he said. "I'm looking forward to bringing all those efforts together."
