Women's water polo wins four

After suffering through a 1-3 performance against some of the nation's top teams at the USCB Tournament, women's water polo went into the Collegiate Water Polo Association League Weekend looking to get back on track and play like the team that was ranked No. 5 in the nation by Sports Illustrated for Women.

The weekend marked the opening of CWPA league play, and the Tigers picked up four wins to jump to the head of the CWPA South Division Standings.

In the first game of the weekend, the Tigers defeated George Washington, 12-5. Sophomore driver Jenny Edwards and freshman two-meter Vanessa Jackson scored three goals apiece to lead the Tigers.

In its second game of the afternoon, Princeton defeated Villanova, 16-7. Jackson scored five goals in the contest. On Feb. 17, the Tigers had beaten the Wildcats 16-4 in Villanova, Pa., and the two teams will match up again next Friday, again in Villanova, Pa.

The Tigers began the next day with a victory over Salem International, 11-5. In the afternoon match, Princeton topped Bucknell, 10-7. The Bison got three goals from Brooke Rea. Princeton, however, allowed four other players only one goal each in the victory.

With the weekend sweep, the Tigers move into first in the Mid-Atlantic Region of the Southern Division of the CWPA. The next CWPA League Weekend will be March 24-25 in Lewisburg, Pa.

In the latest CWPA Collegiate Women's Top 20 Poll, Princeton is ranked 14th, just ahead of Brown and behind Southern Division rival Michigan, to whom Princeton lost 10-9 at the UCSB tournament.
