News & Notes

The men's water polo team, which had maintained high hopes for Easterns this past weekend, suffered a devastating loss to Queens in the first round of the tournament, before winning its final two games of the weekend to capture a fifth-place finish.

In the first round, the Tigers came out slowly and could never fully recover from an early deficit, finishing with a disappointing 12-11 loss. Having been eliminated from title contention, Princeton salvaged some pride by defeating Johns Hopkins, 15-5, behind three goals from senior two-meter Drew Jones.

Yesterday, the Tigers defeated Harvard in a tight, 7-6 game to take fifth place. Princeton dominated the Crimson and, after several missed opportunities, finally broke through late in the game when sophomore two-meter Kevin Foster scored to break a tie, his fifth of the game.

Navy, which has split a pair of one-goal games with the Tigers this year, won the tournament title yesterday. The Midshipmen defeated St. Francis (N.Y.) in the championship game, winning a 13-12 thriller in triple overtime.
