Bob Dylan to headline Senior Week

Word of a big surprise is blowing in the wind across campus today, as the senior class officers have announced Bob Dylan will perform at Princeton on Nov. 17.

The music legend's show will be the highlight of Senior Week — a week-long series of both seniors-only and campus-wide events designed to bring together the Class of 2001.

The Dylan concert, which will begin at 8 p.m. in Dillon gym, will be open to undergraduates, graduate students, faculty and staff. However, 400 tickets will be reserved for members of the senior class, which is sponsoring the event.

Tickets — which will be available at the 100 level of the Frist Campus Center — will be sold Monday and Tuesday between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. The first 400 tickets sold to seniors on Monday will cost $12. All other undergraduates will have to pay $17. Faculty, staff, graduate students and alumni can purchase tickets Wednesday between 12 p.m. and 6 p.m. for $25.

Senior class president Justin Browne and vice president Anne Gordon said they expect to sell all 2,250 available tickets.

Students have tried to bring Dylan — who received an honorary degree from Princeton in 1970 — to campus in recent years, but without success.

But a few weeks ago, one of Dylan's agents called the University and said that Dylan, who has been making many appearances at colleges lately, would like to play at Princeton, Gordon said.

Gordon said the senior class received a discount because Dylan was already planning on being in the area the night of the concert.

Browne and Gordon said they hope the concert will help promote Senior Week — a tradition they worry may have become less popular in recent years.

Indeed, many students, especially those in lower classes, have not even heard of Senior Week, Browne noted.

"I am thinking of [the Dylan concert] as a very special event," Browne said.

During the next few days the senior class will be seeking student volunteers to help prepare Dillon during the final days before the concert.

The other plans for the week include Vegas Night, a hypnotist, a party at Chancellor Green and a contest titled "Who Wants to be a Thousandaire?"
