'Liberal' doesn't equal 'left'

Twice in the April 18 IMF article, the word "liberal" was used to describe Princeton's Democratic Left. Many members would take issue with this terminology. "Liberal" does not accurately mean simply left-leaning (and in most of the world it does not even mean that). Most of the Democratic Left considers itself significantly left of "liberal," which more plausibly describes the mainstream Princeton population. Granted, the Democratic Left may still be far too moderate and sadly operates in much the same ideological framework as Princeton at large. Most of its members wish to think themselves somewhat radical, however, and at least in terminology they should be humored. Adam Webb GS
