Wrestling takes 16th place

In their opening competition of the year 2000, the wrestling team was hoping that the New Year would bring with it a fresh start – and more promising results on the scoreboard.

Unfortunately for Princeton, Saturday's Millersville Invitational did not give the Tigers the strong team showing they were looking for.

Out of the 25-team field, Princeton finished a disappointing 16th with a team score of 48.5.

"It's just a tough time for us," head coach Michael New said. "The outlook is bleaker than it should be as the result of several injuries."

Both junior Scott Pasquini and freshman Joe Clarke advanced to the tournament's Wrestleback Finals, competing for individual honors. Pasquini finished fourth in the 174-pound weight class, after falling to Duquesne's Mack Rohaly, 9-4, in his final match.

In the 141-pound weight class, Clarke defeated George Mason's Donnie DeFillippis, 9-5, to take home fifth place.

A recent spat of injuries, mostly among the team's upperclassmen, has hurt the depleted Tiger roster in team competition of late.

Rutgers ran away with the team championship with a team score of 193.5. The Scarlet Knights topped second-place James Madison by 35.5 points. The College of New Jersey came in at third with 99 team points.
