I don’t yet know if I’ve found my “passion.” But I’m interested in and enjoying what I do, allowing for variety in both my routine and the subjects I am exploring. I’m excited about every coming day, because I am doing things that genuinely interest me.
Authenticity is the key. Museums offer a way to bring to life the history and culture we learn in our classrooms, painting a picture of something that seems so far away and remote on the pages of textbooks.
It is a very fine line between these two states, but the most important thing that you can do is pick your battles. It can be hard to be outraged about everything.
When I first heard news of the shooting, I knew how the next few weeks would go. America would mourn for the children struck down, young and vibrant and full of life. We would send our thoughts and prayers. There would be a Twitter hashtag for the victims and the community. There would be 24-hour coverage of the incident, and thorough research into the background of the sick perpetrator of these crimes. The debate about gun violence would be resurrected. The same people would say the same things. And, ultimately, nothing would happen.
