Back-to-back games fatigue the best of teams, but the men’s tennis team showed its grit by sweeping the weekend. The Tigers (11–5) topped Binghamton (3–10), Charlotte (7–8), and No. 39 Western Michigan (11–4) in their three-game home stand. Princeton extended its win streak to five games as they look to build momentum heading into Ivy League play at the end of the month.

With the season on the line, the men’s basketball team fell just short of qualifying for the Ivy League Tournament in a heartbreaking overtime loss to Yale. To qualify, the Tigers needed to win both games this weekend and for Harvard to defeat Columbia. While Princeton handily defeated Brown 78–63, the Orange and Black were narrowly outscored in OT with Yale, falling to the Bulldogs 90–94. Penn is the top seed followed by Harvard, Yale, and Cornell.

Less than a month separates the men’s and women’s tennis team from a return to Ivy League play. While both sides have been competing since September, conference play and the ensuing NCAA tournament will undoubtedly add a degree of intensity as the season progresses. Both the men’s and women’s teams have shown strong performances so far, promising an exciting and competitive 2018 campaign.

The women’s basketball team split its weekend matches against Dartmouth and Harvard to maintain its top spot in the Ivy League standings. The Tigers defeated Big Green to start the weekend, but fell to the Crimson, ending their seven-game winning streak in the Ivy League. Despite the loss, Princeton still managed to secure a spot in the upcoming Ivy League tournament. It must beat either Brown or Yale in one of its two upcoming games to enter as the top seed.

The men’s swimming and diving team finished second in the Ivy League Championships, held between Feb. 20 and Feb. 24. While the Tigers were competitive throughout the competition, they were unable to muster a comeback against Harvard, the eventual champions. However, the Tigers showed great potential as there were plenty of standout performances over the four days.

Instead of facing one of the normal age-old rivals Harvard or Yale, the football team will play Brown in next year’s homecoming matchup and end the season playing regional rival Penn. The decision comes after modifications to the Ivy League football schedule announced in mid-December 2017. This conflicts with the traditional schedule for the Tigers. What many alumni have expressed concern about however, is that Princeton will play both the Bulldogs and the Crimson away.

The women’s swimming team defied expectations, posting 1,301 points in the Ivy League Championships. The team made a strong push under first-year head coach Bret Lundgaard, improving markedly from their 1,024 points from last season. Despite strong performances, the Tigers fell to both Harvard and Yale for another third-place finish. The Crimson took the top spot with 1,616 points.

The men’s basketball team conceded its second game to the University of Pennsylvania this season after a tough 82–65 defeat. Penn’s victory puts them at the top of the Ivy League with a perfect 6–0 record. Princeton is now tied with Columbia with a 3–3 record. The top four teams in the Ivy League will qualify for the Ivy League tournament.

After sweeping Temple University 7–0, the women’s tennis team entered the weekend slated to face off against the University of Delaware and No. 12 Auburn University. The doubleheader began on an auspicious note as the Tigers swept Delaware 7–0, taking two of three in the doubles point and sweeping the singles. However, Princeton awaited nationally ranked Auburn fresh off a sweep of Cornell University. The Tigers would knock of Auburn 4–2 improving their dual-meet record to 3–0.

The men’s volleyball team began the new year with a challenge. Traveling to Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, the Tigers faced four nationally ranked teams to open the season. Despite the daunting opposition, the Princeton team showed their perseverance with several strong performances including a historic win against No. 8 Stanford, showing the strength and potential of their young squad.

This past Saturday, Dec. 23, the men’s basketball team clawed out a narrow 64-62 victory against Akron after a buzzer beater from junior guard Myles Stephens. After a difficult loss against Middle Tennessee that went down to the wire, Princeton rebounded to win its second match in the Hawaiian Airlines Diamondhead Classic.
With just under a minute left in the game, a three-pointer from freshman forward Sebastian Much gave Princeton a three-point advantage, breaking a deadlock that threatened to throw the game into overtime. A successful defensive possession gave the Tigers an opportunity to make it a two-possession game, but a missed one-on-one opportunity gave the Zips an opportunity to tie the game. Akron did just that, nailing a three-pointer to tie the game at 62 apiece.
Nevertheless, the Tigers maintained their composure. With just five seconds remaining on the clock, Princeton knew it would have to execute a quick play. Much took the inbound pass, finding an opening for Stephens under the bucket. A bank lay-up by Stephens sealed the game for the Tigers as the clocks ticked away.
Senior guard Amir Bell led the Orange and Black side with 16 points, shooting a remarkable 70 percent from the field. In addition to the game-winning shot, Stephens added 15 points to the Tigers' effort.
The Tigers will continue their season on Christmas day against Hawai’i. This will be the last game before the Princeton team opens Ivy League play against Penn at the Palestra on Jan. 5.

The men’s hockey team traveled to Arizona State this past weekend for a two-game series against the Sun Devils. The Tigers opened the series with an emphatic 4–0 victory over their rivals, but Arizona would come back in the second game to claw out a narrow victory in overtime against the Princeton squad.

After a close loss to No. 24 Villanova, the women’s basketball team came into their match against Delaware hungry for a win. A career-high performance from senior guard Tia Weledji would give them just that as the Tigers cruised to a 78-60 victory over the Blue Hens.

After facing tough opponents in a rocky start to their season, the men’s basketball team has managed to string together a pair of wins after an 83-76 victory over Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Tigers started the game strong, fending off a surge from the Knights in the second half to grab their second win of the season.

After a brilliant performance against the No. 2 North Carolina team, the women’s soccer team looked to recreate the magic against UCLA in the NCAA quarterfinals. Despite a strong performance, the Tigers were unable to pull off another upset as they lost to the Bruins, 3-1. The loss ended Princeton’s historic quarterfinal run — the best performance by a Princeton team since 2004, when the Orange and Black advanced to the semifinals.

With a bid to the NCAA on the line, the Tigers put together a strong performance to sweep Yale in the Ivy League playoffs. Princeton and Yale led the Ancient Eight this season, sharing a piece of the Ivy League title. The tie meant a playoff match in New Haven would determine which side would enter the NCAA. The Tigers clinched their return to the tournament with an emphatic 3-0 victory over the bulldogs.

Just a handful of years ago, the Princeton Running Club team was a relative unknown on the club running scene. Since then the team has rebranded itself, finding new talent and revitalizing the running culture at the club level. Last year was the Tigers’ breakout moment. Princeton burst into the limelight at the NIRCA Cross Country National Championships with the women’s and men’s team placing second and fifth, respectively.

This is the third straight year the Tigers have earned a share of the Ivy League crown. The Tigers (10-4 Ivy League) swept the Crimson and narrowly lost to Big Green in five sets. The Princeton team will head to New Haven this weekend to play for an NCAA bid.
