Three in every 10 Republicans say they would not back New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie if he ran for the White House, according to a recently released Washington Post-ABC News poll.
Although Christie was favored by the GOP to lead the party in 2016 after winning his reelection this past fall, he now faces two investigations, one by the state legislature and the other by U.S. Attorney for the district of New Jersey Paul Fishman '78, after receiving the blame for a controversy over a four-day traffic backup in September.
The survey asked about the chances of nine Republicans, most of whom of are considered to have presidential aspirations, as well as of former Secretary of State, Democrat Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Twenty-five percent of all Americans report they “definitely would” vote for Clinton and 41 percent say they would consider it. Thirty-two percent of Americans and 37 percent of registered voters say they definitely would not.
The same poll also found that 50 percent of registered voters and nearly half of the whole American population “definitely would not” vote for Jeb Bush for president.
