News & Notes: Trishka Cecil appointed town attorney, effective March 1

Town attorney Edwin Schmierer will step down from his position after a town council meetingon Monday, according to the Princeton Packet.

Schmierer served as the municipal attorney for more than 30 years and has represented both the former borough and the former township of Princeton before the two merged. Some of the most recent cases he worked on during his term include the consolidation of the township and the borough and mediating the conflict of interest between Mayor Liz Lempert and the University.

The town council met at 7 p.m. on Mondayto vote to appoint Trishka Cecil, a member of Schmierer’s firm, as Schmierer’s successor, effectiveMarch 1. The town received five proposals and interviewed representatives of three law firms before the vote.
