At its Monday, Jan. 24 meeting, conflict of interest concerns led the Princeton Town Council to disband the Site Plan Review Advisory Board (SPRAB), a team of professional designers that reviews construction proposals to advise the Planning Board. Also, during the meeting, the public brought up concerns about new Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) and an upcoming ordinance mandating business assessments.

On Monday, Jan. 10, in its first meeting of 2022, the Princeton Town Council announced it was reimplementing a mask mandate in all public indoor spaces. The mandate will go into effect at 5 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 13. The mandate will stay in place until 12:00 a.m. on Jan. 31, though it can be extended.

The University’s 2020 undergraduate voting rate reached a record-breaking 75.4 percent — an increase of 24.9 percent from 2016, and the highest voting rate ever recorded for the University — according to a report by the National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE). College and university students across the country participated on a similarly unprecedented scale, boosting the Average Institutional Voting Rate from 53 percent in 2016 to 66 percent in 2020.

Incumbent Democrat Gov. Philip D. Murphy won reelection against Republican and former General Assembly member Jack Ciattarelli, making him the first New Jersey Democrat to win gubernatorial reelection in the past four decades. The last Democrat to do so was Brendan Byrne ’49 in 1977.

This Thursday, People’s Organization for Progress (POP) led a demonstration in Princeton for police accountability. The protest was part of the Long March of Justice, a 67-mile march from Montclair, N.J. to Trenton advocating for reform in policing systems.
