The men’s soccer team will square off against Columbia at 4 p.m. this Saturday, in its first Ivy League road matchup of the season. The Tigers (6-3-2 overall, 1-1 Ivy League) have won five of their past six matches, including their last three in a row. In Princeton’s last Ivy League showdown last Saturday, the Tigers earned a 2-1 home victory over Brown (3-4-4, 1-1). Despite losing three consecutive games heading into last weekend, the Lions (4-5, 1-1) managed to earn an important victory against Ivy League opponent Penn (5-6, 1-1)last Saturday. Both teams will look to capitalize on this league momentum heading into Saturday’s showdown in New York City.

The men’s soccer team earned a hard-fought 2-1 home victory over Brown (3-4-3 overall, 1-1 Ivy League) on Saturday afternoon, when senior defender Joe Saitta scored the first goal of his college career in the 84th minute. Saitta collected a well-placed cross from sophomore midfielder Vikran Pothuri on the left side of the box and finished clinically. His far-post strike catapulted the Tigers (5-3-2, 1-1) to a 2-1 victory and to their first win over Brown since the 2010 season.

After failing to score a goal in its first two matches to begin the 2014 campaign, the women’s soccer team begun to shift gears. The Tigers (1-1-2) tallied two goals at La Salle (3-2-2) to earn a 2-2 draw on Friday, September 12th and scored two more on the way to a 2-1 victory at home against Villanova (2-4-1) the following Sunday. The next week's Villanova contest, which was broadcast on ESPNU, gave the national audience exposure to a Princeton squad that dominated in shots and scoring opportunities. But the Tigers are not yet completely satisfied with their performance yet this year, and the club possesses lofty goals for the remainder of this season.

Despite amassing 16 shots and six corner kicks, the women’s soccer team drew 0-0 with Seton Hall on Monday afternoon. The game was the Tigers’ second of the season and their second consecutive home matchup. Princeton, which has now been shut out in two consecutive matches, has not yet scored a goal this season. The Tigers have not been shut out in consecutive games to open a season since failing to score in three straight matches to begin the 2007 season.

The men’s and women’s golf teams competed in the Ivy League Championships this weekend, teeing off against league competition at Baltusrol Golf Club in nearby Springfield, N.J. After the three rounds of competition between Friday and Sunday, the women’s team finished tied for second place out of seven teams while the men’s squad placed fourth of eight.

The women’s lacrosse team defeated Dartmouth 12-10 at the Class of 1952 Stadium on Saturday afternoon, securing its third consecutive victory and clinching the regular season Ivy League Championship for the first time since 2006. With the win, the Tigers (10-4 overall, 6-1 Ivy League) earned their ninth victory in their last 10 games, while the Big Green (5-8, 2-4) dropped their fourth straight contest. Princeton will wrap up the regular season on Saturday, April 26 at Penn State before returning home for the Ivy League tournament.

Jewish athletes gathered at the Center for Jewish Life on Thursday afternoon for a Jewish Athletes’ Luncheon, the second event of its kind hosted this year. The group of students was addressed over lunch by keynote speaker Howard Levy ’85, who starred as a center for the basketball team at Princeton in the early 1980s. Levy spoke of his experience as a Jewish athlete on campus three decades ago and encouraged students to continually develop their interests in Judaism and athletics. Levy, who retains the highest career field goal percentage of any Tiger, hailed the event as an opportunity to help bring Jewish athletes closer together on campus.

Following Wednesday’s tough home loss to No. 2 Maryland, the Princeton women’s lacrosse team is set to take on Harvard in Cambridge this Saturday afternoon. Princeton (7-4 overall, 3-1 Ivy League) and Harvard (7-4, 3-1) are currently tied for second place in the Ivy League standings, and therefore Saturday’s matchup will hold particular significance as the regular season comes to a close this month.

The women’s lacrosse team is set to take on Yale at 1 p.m. on Saturday, in the second match of a three game home stand for the Tigers. Princeton (6-3 overall, 2-1 Ivy League) enters the matchup on a five-game winning streak, whereas Yale (7-3, 1-2) comes to Princeton having won two consecutive games. The Tigers hold the edge in the all-time series between the two teams, boasting a 25-14-1 record against the Bulldogs. In fact, Princeton has not lost to Yale since 2007, when the Tigers fell to the Bulldogs in New Haven 6-5.

The women’s lacrosse team staved off Cornell in overtime Saturday afternoon, firing three quick goals within the six-minute overtime period to pull ahead of the Big Red 10-7 at 1952 Stadium. With the victory, Princeton (6-3 overall, 2-1 Ivy League) extended its current win streak to five consecutive games, while Cornell (4-5, 1-2) dropped its fourth straight match.

Following back-to-back one-goal overtime losses, the Princeton women’s lacrosse team will look to rebound in its three games over spring break. The squad will host No.6 Virginia (3-4 overall, 0-2 ACC) at home on Saturday afternoon before making the team’s only trip to the West Coast this season. Once in California, Princeton will take on USC (1-2, 0-0 Pac-12) Wednesday afternoon and San Diego State (5-1, 2-0 MPSF) on Saturday evening.

The women’s basketball team earned two important road victories this weekend,defeating Columbia 70-41 in New York City on Friday night before beating Cornell 71-56 in Ithaca the following evening. With the back-to-back victories, the Tigers (13-6overall, 4-1 Ivy League) extended their current winning streak to three games and are 10-2 in their last 12 games. Princeton sits tied for second place in the Ivy League whileCornell (11-9, 3-3) and Columbia (4-16, 1-5) occupy the fifth and seventh place spots,respectively.

The men’s hockey team suffered two tough losses over the weekend, falling to No. 11 Union 3-0 in Schenectady on Friday night and 5-2 to Rensselaer in Troy on Saturday afternoon. Princeton (3-12 overall, 2-8 ECAC) lost two games for the second consecutive weekend and now finds itself at the bottom of the ECAC, having gone 2-12 in its last 14 games.

The men’s hockey team fell 4-1 to Michigan State before 4,744 fans in East Lansing on Friday night, in the first contest of a two-game series against the Big Ten opponent. With another loss Sunday, Princeton (3-10 overall, 2-6 ECAC) fell to 1-4 in its last five games and 2-10 in its last 12. Michigan State (4-7, 0-0 Big Ten) snapped a four-game losing streak with the victory, winning for the first time since early November.

The No. 5 Princeton field hockey team earned an important victory Saturday in its final match of the season, defeating Penn 5-1 in Philadelphia. The win capped off a strong regular season for the defending national champion Tigers (13-4 overall, 7-0 Ivy League), in which they finished on a seven-game win streak and won the Ivy League with a perfect record. After ending Penn’s (13-4, 5-2) five-game winning streak, Princeton will now face Penn State (13-5, 5-1 Big Ten)in the NCAA tournament on Nov. 16.

The men’s and women’s hockey teams are gearing up for an important weekend of league hockey, as both squads will face off against Yale on Friday night and Brown Saturday night. The men (1-3-0 overall, 0-2-0 ECAC) will take on No. 9 Yale (2-1-1, 1-0-1) at Baker Rink Friday at 7 p.m., before taking the ice there again against Brown (2-1-1, 0-1-1) at 4 p.m. on Saturday. The women’s team will take on the same teams on the road, with matches at Yale (0-4-0, 0-2-0) Friday night and Brown (1-2-1, 0-1-1) Saturday afternoon.

Despite outshooting Brown by more than double and tallying several more shots on goal than the Bears (3-5-3 overall, 0-0-2 Ivy League), the men’s soccer team could not find the net even once during the matchup in Providence on Saturday afternoon. When the final whistle blew after 110 minutes of intense soccer, the score remained knotted at 0-0, and the Tigers (4-5-1 , 1-0-1)emerged with their first draw of the season. Princeton maintained its undefeated Ivy League record through two games while Brown tied its second straight Ivy League matchup.

When the men’s soccer team and its coaching staff took the practice field this preseason, the squad was joined by many new faces. The group, which added seven freshman players this off-season, also added assistant coach Jesse Marsch ’96 to the coaching staff. Marsch, who played college soccer as a midfielder at Princeton, went on to enjoy a long and storied MLS career in which he won three MLS championships and four U.S. Open Cup championships as a player. He then went on to become assistant coach of the U.S. men’s national team and later head coach of an MLS expansion franchise, the Montreal Impact.
