In the midst of a brutal losing streak, which saw the Princeton men’s ice hockey (13–17–0 overall, 8–14–0 ECAC) drop eight of their last ten contests, ninth-seeded Tigers took the ice against eighth-seeded Union College (14–19–2, 8–13–1) in a single-elimination first-round matchup. In a raucous environment away at Messa Rink, the Tigers managed to secure a back-and-forth 6–4 victory and lived to see another weekend.

A year after shocking nationally ranked No. 6 Harvard in a first round upset of the 2022 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) playoffs, Princeton women’s ice hockey (15–15–1 overall, 10–12–0 ECAC) set their sights on an even bigger upset against No. 3 Colgate (30–5–2, 18–3–1) this time around. Unfortunately for the Tigers, despite a thrilling win in the first game of the three-game series, an upset was not in the cards against the Raiders.

Men’s ice hockey (12–15–0 overall, 8–12–0 ECAC) split their final two home games of the season with a victory over Brown (9–16–2, 5–13–2) and a disappointing shutout loss against Yale (6–17–4, 5–13–2). The Tigers had the opportunity to clinch home ice for the winner-takes-all first round of the conference playoffs, but that will have to wait until next weekend with Saturday’s loss.

Heading into the weekend, men’s ice hockey (11–14–0 overall, 7–11–0 ECAC) had a prime opportunity to move into fifth place in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) with matchups against St. Lawrence (15–15–0, 10–8–0) and Clarkson (13–14–3, 7–9–2). Unfortunately for the Tigers, however, two tough losses sent them plummeting into seventh place in the ECAC.

Gen. Mark Milley ’80 visited the University on Saturday, Jan. 7 to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Hobey Baker Rink. A hockey player, ROTC cadet, and politics student while he was at Princeton, Milley is now a four-star general who serves as the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. He spoke to reporters from The Daily Princetonian and Princeton Alumni Weekly about hockey, his reflections on studying at Princeton, and the repercussions of the 2021 Capitol riots.

Amidst Hobey 100 celebrations, which commemorated a century of Hobey Baker Rink, Princeton women’s ice hockey (9–6–1 overall, 5–5–0 ECAC) celebrated wins over Dartmouth (5–13–0, 1–10–0) and Harvard (4–10–3, 3–7–3). The Harvard matchup brought in a crowd of 1,544, the largest ever for a women’s hockey game at the venue.

After two consecutive defeats to end an otherwise excellent season, Princeton football is perhaps facing a significant loss to its roster, as first-year running back Ryan Butler has entered the transfer portal. Butler retweeted a post from @FarrellPortal on Twitter last week, indicating that he is looking at the possibility of transferring for next season.
