At 11:19 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, a student sent a message to a group chat called “Black Princeton” — a GroupMe chat with almost 1,000 members — requesting video footage from the occupation of Clio Hall on Monday, April 29 by pro-Palestinan protesters. Less than half an hour later, Abigail Anthony ’23, a reporter for the conservative news outlet The National Review, posted a screenshot of the message on X.

Following a rushed special meeting on Sunday, April 28, the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) Senate published a statement around 2 p.m. on Monday, April 29 calling on the University to “publicly reaffirm the right to speak and peaceably assemble” and “commit to suspending neither student groups nor individuals without meaningful due process.”

In 2016, Jonathan Tenenbaum ’25 was involved in a nearly fatal skiing accident. Now, he is a premedical student, with a goal of attending medical school that he attributes, in part, to his experience as a pediatric patient.

Ella Weber ’25 was named as one of 60 recipients of the 2024 Truman Scholarship, a $30,000 award given to college juniors to “recognize and reward their commitments to careers in public service.” Weber, a SPIA major, hails from Crookston, Minn. and is a member of the Mandan, Hidatsa, and Arikara Nation.

An approximately 4.8 magnitude earthquake struck campus at approximately 10:25 a.m. on Friday, April 5. According to the United States Geological Survey, the epicenter of the earthquake was in Tewksbury, N.J., approximately 25 miles north of Princeton.

On Friday, March 29, the trustees of Princeton University adopted an operating budget of $3.1 billion for the upcoming academic year, a roughly 6.2 percent increase from the 2023–24 total operating budget of $2.92 billion. The budget also includes an increase in undergraduate financial aid from $268 million to $279 million.

For many Princeton students, “course offerings day,” the day when classes for the following semester are posted by the Registrar, can be a day of frenzied excitement. This year, some celebrated three days early when a post from the morning of Monday, March 25 on the social media app Fizz claimed to leak Princeton’s fall 2024 course offerings. Courses are set to be officially released on Thursday, March 28.

University President Christopher Eisgruber ’83 addressed the Princeton Town Council in its meeting on Monday, Feb. 26. During the meeting, the council granted an extension on the Graduate Hotel construction project, which was supposed to end by March, until May 16.

James Li ’27, a member of Yeh College, passed on Feb. 16 after being struck by the Princeton Dinky shuttle at the Faculty Road crossing. He is remembered by friends for his wit and care and was a devoted student of languages and philosophy.

Princeton Mayor Mark Freda recently announced his intention to run for reelection during a virtual press conference on Jan. 19. Princeton’s Board of Trustees submitted building plans to the Princeton Town Council’s planning board on Dec. 15, 2023 for a new building — the Quantum Institute for Quantum Science and Engineering. Much like the ongoing project south of Prospect Avenue to complete the School of Engineering and Applied Science (SEAS), the building is the latest in a series of steps by the University to focus on research and expansion of the sciences. It also features sustainable design as part of the University’s goal of net-zero emissions by 2046.

Tensions ran high at the first Princeton Board of Education meeting of the semester on Tuesday, Jan. 30 as public commenters debated the sex education curriculum at Princeton Middle School. Some commenters accused protesters of intimidating children after weeks of protesting against the program outside of the school.
