Right out of DeNunzio Pool, the men’s water polo team has been off to the races with the start of its 2014 fall season. Opening up with big wins in addition to a sweep of the Princeton Invitational, the Tigers have big goals for this upcoming year. Last week, after sweeping the Bruno Fall Classic and beating the then 8th-ranked team University of California, Irvine, the Tigers have tied for 8thin the Collegiate Water Polo Association poll. This is the highest ranking the team has achieved since its No. 9 ranking in 2006.

Going three-for-three this weekend, the women’s water polo team has shown it has what it takes going into the Southern Division championship. Playing Brown and Harvard on Saturday and then George Washington at home on Sunday, the No. 9 Tigers maintain their undefeated streak.

Eight teams filled the Jadwin Gymnasium squash courts this past weekend as the women’s squash team competed in the CSA National Championships for the Howe Cup. Going into the tournament, the Tigers were ranked fifth, after Harvard, Trinity, Penn and Yale. The first round matchup on Friday was against Yale.

Sophomore fencer Anna Van Brummen has already had a multitude of success in the year of 2014. The women’s fencing team has clinched its fifth consecutive Ivy League title, with Van Brummen coming in first in the épée as well as being named first team All-Ivy. In the beginning of Februrary of this year, Van Brummen also won the Junior World Cup in Goteborg, Sweden, beating 189 other fencers from 32 different nations.

Both the men's and women’s squash team closed out their Ivy League season against Columbia and Cornell this past weekend. The women’s team looked to defend their number five ranking, going against no. 9 Columbia and no. 6 Cornell. The men, on the other hand, will look to improve their ranking as they could potentially fall outside of the top eight going into the CSA team tournament.

The women’s ice hockey team spent the past weekend in New York, playing two conference games against Union and Rensselaer, tying one and losing the other.

The No. 3 men’s squash team opened up its season this weekend with an away game against No. 7 Franklin & Marshall on Saturday and No. 11 Williams College at home. The Tigers suffered some ups and downs, with an upset 2-7 loss against the Diplomats and a win against the Ephs 9-0.

On Homecoming Saturday, the football team has a chance to earn its second straight bonfire. After defeating Harvard in a triple overtime thriller Oct. 26, the Tigers (7-1 overall, 5-0 Ivy League) face Yale in a game that could earn them a spot in Princeton history.

This past weekend, the sailing team hosted its annual Princeton Women’s Regatta against four teams from all over the coast, from as far away as Queen’s University in Ontario to the College of William & Mary in Virginia.Day one was filled with close races, but in the end Princeton finished third, coming in behind William & Mary and Fordham University. The places reversed on the second day, as Princeton placed first in front of Fordham and William & Mary. Freshman Sydney Mandelbaum finished first in her race, giving her a win in only her second collegiate race.

The women's tennis team's fall season differs from its spring season in that most of the tournaments and match play competitions are individual. The individual points do affect the team — winning tournaments and matches will contribute to individual rankings as well as the overall ranking of the team come spring. However, this season will also allow the Tigers to assess their four new freshmen, as well as continue to perfect the talent their team already has.

The men’s and women’s tennis teams faced two more Ivy League opponents this weekend playing Yale and Brown. The No. 51 men’s team (14-4 overall, 3-0 Ivy League) went undefeated, taking down No. 54 Yale 5-2 and Brown 4-3 in a very close match, while the No. 65 women (10-5, 2-1) split their weekend, losing to Yale and beating Brown.

The men’s and women’s tennis teams played Penn on Saturday to open their Ivy League season. Both teams got off to a good start against the Quakers as the men’s team won 4-3, and the women’s team 6-1.
