David Petraeus GS'87 will return to Princeton this October for the first time since he resigned from his post as CIA director nearly a year before.
Petraeus will speak at a dinner reception at the University’s conference for graduate alumni on Oct. 18, according to aconference schedulereleased Monday. He will be interviewed by Michael O’Hanlon GS ’91, a foreign policy analyst at The Brookings Institution who has also lectured at the Wilson School.
Since earning his Ph.D from the Wilson School, Petraeus has mentored University alumni interested in the military. He delivered the Baccalaureate address in 2010. Following the resignation of former University President Shirley Tilghman, Petraeus alsoexpressed interest inthe University presidency,according to several of his friends, including O’Hanlon.
He resignedas the head of the CIAin November 2012 after admitting to havinghad an extramarital affair with his biographer, Paula Broadwell. Following his highly publicized departure, Petraeus did not give any speeches until March 2013, when he apologized for the affair. Since then, he has accepted faculty positions at the City University of New York and the University of Southern California.
His speech will be part of "Many Minds, Many Stripes," a conference for the University's graduate alumni to be held from Oct. 17 to Oct. 19. Other speakers will include formerCEO of Lockheed Martin, Norman Augustine GS '59, head of the Federal Aviation Administration,Michael Huerta GS ’80, and University President Christopher Eisgruber ’83.
It was also announced this week that Petraeus will speak at Duke University on Sept. 11.
