Princeton has such a plethora of programs and such good financial aid that odds are you and/or 437 of your closest friends have studied or had an internship abroad this summer. Whether it was Timbuktu, Toronto or Tegucigalpa, you’ve posted or stalked enough photos to last a lifetime. Let’s look at what happens when you finally come back home to the land of the free.

1. Your internal clock is very confused.

2. You realize how cheap/expensive the United States is.

“$3 for a coffee!” you exclaim in delight/horror, depending on where you lived.

3. You eat all of your old favorite foods.

Be they hamburgers, Chipotle or good ol’ Southern biscuits, you’re sure to binge on your favorite foods from home.

4. You miss all of your new favorite foods.

Nutella might be there, or chai tea, or maybe your body just really enjoyed fewer additives and preservatives. In any case, you’re gonna regret that binge pretty fast.

5. You totally Facebook stalk all of your foreign friends.

... and tryreallyhard not to think about how you might never see them again.

6. You readjust to the weather at home.

If you’re transitioning from Ireland to the Southeast (like me) you might be forced to put away your sweaters and rain boots, and remember that shorts are a thing. If you’re traveling from a desert to New England, you might shiver nonstop for several days. Either way, you’ll be forced to change out your entire wardrobe.

7. You remember that you (probably) can’t drink (legally) at home.

It doesn’t even matter if you actually want to drink, you just miss the freedom of legally ordering a drink somewhere.

8. You become a bit obsessed with your souvenirs.

You’re like this kitten with his teddy bear —awwwwww —but you just can’t help yourself. You’re really grateful to your friends and family for not making too much fun of you.

9. Eventually, you remember that home is kind of boring.
