There appears to be good reason for excitement and optimism for the Princeton sprint football team. A long-standing varsity men’s sport at Princeton, the sprint football team is looking to win its first game since 1999 as it begins a new season this week. With a completely revamped coaching staff— including a former Super Bowl champion as head coach— and a deeper roster of players than it has fielded in the recent past, the team is energized and taking a fresh approach as it encounters a brand new season.

The Princeton softball team finished its season on a strong note this weekend, winning its last two regular season games against Cornell. The Tigers lost the first two games of their weekend series on Saturday by scores of 2-0 and 8-6, effectively taking themselves out of the running for the Ivy League title, but rallied on Sunday to sweep two games 5-2 and 8-2. This weekend’s series leaves Princeton tied for second with Columbia in the Ivy South Division with an Ivy League record of 9-11 (17-26 overall). Penn maintained a solid lead in the division at 13-6. With the losses, Cornell stands in last place at 8-10.

The softball team will host the first-place Penn Quakers this weekend at the Class of 1895 Field, playing four games over the course of two days. The Tigers hope to continue their recent momentum after winning three of four games against Columbia last weekend despite losing a doubleheader against Harvard this afternoon. The Tigers (14-21 overall, 6-6 Ivy League) made an impressive jump last weekend from fourth in the Ivy South Division to second place in the standings, which are led by Penn (12-16, 7-4). Last season, the Tigers struggled against Penn, winning only one of four games played against the Quakers. Two games will be played Saturday and Sunday, the first starting at 12:30 p.m. and the second at 2:30 p.m.

Dartmouth swept the Princeton softball team in a doubleheader today, beating the Tigers 1-0 and 4-1 in the afternoon twin bill. The games against Dartmouth were rescheduled for a doubleheader today due to heavy rainfall over the weekend in Princeton. With the sweep, Dartmouth improved its record to a game over .500 at 14-13, while the Tigers fell to 5-17 for the season. Both teams seemed happy to be playing in the considerably warmer, sunny weather.
