In the most recent development concerning University student room draw, Adam Chang ’20 and Yang Song ’20 found that draw groups with more students are more likely to receive earlier draw times, draw ordering is the same across 2018 and 2019 for those in the same draw groups, and students other than current juniors are affected by the randomization error previously disclosed by the University. Some of these conclusions, which were initially sent to the RockyWire listserv, refute claims made by University Housing.

Last week, students received an email from Dorian Johnson, Director of Housing and Real Estate Services, notifying them about issues with the randomization process through which students are assigned to select their dormitory rooms. The announcement prompted a bevy of questions and thoughts regarding the current, randomized system, as well as the University’s decision to offer financial compensation, in lieu of a new room draw, to students disadvantaged by the error.

Upperclass room draw processes were not completely randomized this year, according to an email sent to the dorm-undergrads listserv by Director of Housing Dorian Johnson. Johnson wrote that $1,000 would be deducted from the 2019–20 housing fees of rising seniors directly affected by the issue and in the lower half of their class’s draw.

The Princeton Student Climate Initiative (PSCI) has placed a referendum calling for the University to reduce carbon emissions on the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) spring ballot this week. The University has already set a 2046 goal for carbon neutrality, but the PSCI sees the current goal as unclear and incomprehensive.

The Princeton Police Department (PPD) has identified a suspect who scammed around $800 after entering three Nassau Street businesses and falsely claiming to be a “fire extinguisher inspector.” PPD had shared surveillance photos of the suspect through a Facebook post.

Undergraduate students who helped organize the 1vyG conference, for first-generation, low-income (FGLI) students, were upset to learn that a video story they posted to the University’s Instagram feed on Sunday, Feb. 17, was later deleted. The organizers contend that the removal of their content came in response to their reference to the University’s racist past in one of the video segments.
