This past weekend was a great one for Princeton men’s (9–8, 2–1 Ivy League) and women’s (13–3, 0–3) basketball. Both teams went undefeated in their opening Ivy League weekend at home in Jadwin Gymnasium against Columbia on Friday and Cornell on Saturday. The women’s team won 69–47 over Columbia (6–11, 0–2) and 75–54 over Cornell (4–11, 0–2), while the men won 72–56 and 91–54 over the Lions (3–12, 0–2) and the Big Red (6–9, 0–2), respectively.

This past Sunday, the Princeton wrestling team continued its stretch against some of the top teams in the country when it traveled to New York City to take on No. 10 Virginia Tech in Madison Square Garden. The game represented the opening match at the Grapple at the Garden. Unfortunately, the unranked Tigers came out on the losing side of this match, defeated by a score of 26-12. Princeton did get victories from freshman Jonathan Gomez, sophomore Matthew Kolodzik, and junior Mike D’Angelo in the 125, 149, and 157 weight classes respectively.

The women’s basketball team (5-2) came into last night at Lafayette (3-5) looking to pick up back-to-back wins after a win on Saturday at home over Delaware. The two teams had met early last season and Princeton came away with the win (65-27,) a goal the Tigers were looking to repeat. On Wednesday night, the Tigers were victorious 53-45.

The women’s and men’s basketball teams play games back-to-back at home in Jadwin Gymnasium on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The women’s game against No. 25 Villanova will tip first at 5:30 p.m. and will be immediately followed by the men’s game at approximately 8 p.m. against Lehigh.

Princeton men’s basketball (0-1) returns home after an opening game loss, 85-75, to the Butler Bulldogs to take on BYU (1-0) at 7 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 14, in the Tigers’ home opener at Jadwin Gym. BYU and Princeton have played five times in the history of the two teams, with BYU winning all five, a trend that Princeton will be looking to break. Last year in Provo, Princeton played the Cougars in an extremely close season opener, losing only 82—73.

This weekend, Princeton football (5-3 overall, 2-3 Ivy) returns home after a tough stretch to take on Yale (7-1, 4-1) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 11. The game will prove incredibly important. Not only is the game Senior Day for Princeton because it’s the last home game of the season, it’s also the highlight of homecoming weekend. The Bulldogs are currently atop the Ivy League, and a win will clinch them a share of the Ivy League Title. On the other hand, the Tigers are playing for their Ivy League title hopes, needing a win to have a chance at the title at all.

This weekend, Princeton football (5-1, 2-1 Ivy) comes home after a great road trip to take on Cornell (2-4, 2-1). We can expect a good game under the lights at 7 p.m. on Oct. 28 . Last year, when these teams met in Ithaca, the Tigers walked away as big winners. In the 100th meeting between the teams this year, Princeton will be looking to continue its recent success against the Big Red to win its 5th straight over Cornell. Princeton leads the all-time series 61-36-2.

Last Tuesday, the women’s tennis team had a lone double pair compete in the Riviera/ITA All-American Championships hosted at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. This doubles pair consisted of junior Nicole Kalhorn and freshman Stephanie Schrage. The pair played the No. 26 pair of Anna Rogers and Claudia Wiktorin, hailing from North Carolina State. The Princeton players fought hard in an 8-6 defeat in their first round of the qualifying doubles draw. The match was tied before the pair from NC State won three of the last four games. Kalhorn and Schrage have played as doubles partners once before, joining forces at the ITA Hall of Fame Grass Court Invitational earlier this season, where they went 1-1, winning one game 8-5 and losing another heartbreaker 8-7.

This weekend, Princeton football (2-1 overall) heads up to face its final non-conference opponent, Georgetown (1-3), on Powers Field at Princeton Stadium; kickoff is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday. Last year when these teams encountered one other, Princeton’s defense was dominant, forcing five turnovers and only allowing one third down conversion on 12 attempts. These teams have only played eight times, a series that the Tigers lead 7-1. However, the one time the teams met on Powers Field, the Hoyas got away with the victory.

Following successful tournaments at Duke and Penn two weekends ago, the men’s tennis team was looking forward to keeping that strong showing this past weekend at home as they hosted the Ivy-Plus Invitational at the Lenz Tennis Center Friday through Sunday.

This weekend, Princeton football (1–0) heads up to face non-conference opponent Lafayette (0–3) at Fisher Stadium with a kickoff set for 6 p.m. on Saturday. Last year, these teams played each other in the season opener, with the Tigers walking away victors after a crazy 35–31 comeback. In the 50th meeting between the two teams, Princeton will be hoping to repeat that success and continue its momentum after last week’s win over San Diego.

On Saturday, Princeton football will open its 149th season at home against San Diego (1–1). This will be the start of the Tigers’ battle to defend the Ivy League title that they achieved last year. In the preseason poll, Princeton was tied with Harvard, both receiving 120 points; however, the Tigers received more first-place votes than the Crimson. Penn, the team that Princeton shared last year’s Ivy League title with, was right behind Princeton and Harvard with 110 points and five first-place votes, the same number that the Crimson earned.

On Sunday, the women’s openweight rowing headed down to Cooper River for the 2017 Ivy League Championships. Coming into the regatta, Princeton’s 1V was ranked No. 7 in the country and was the top-seeded team in the tournament after an 11-0 season. An advantage for the Tigers this season has been the extra time that they got on the water with the warm weather in February. Performing well in the 2V and V4A races was going to be important for Princeton too; since these are counted in determining the NCAA Championship, they would be important warm-up races.

With its win last Saturday against Columbia (7-8 overall, 2-5 Ivy), the women’s lacrosse team captured its fourth straight Ivy League title, its 13th in school history. Now that the regular season is behind them, the Tigers will turn to postseason play this weekend with the Ivy League tournament when they play the University of Pennsylvania at Cornell. Princeton has won two of the last seven Ivy League tournaments, most recently in 2015 and before that in 2011.

Last weekend, the baseball team had a tough time, getting swept at Clarke Field against Columbia (14-21, 9-7 Ivy). In the two games on Friday, Princeton (9-26-1, 5-11) kept the games close. losing 6-4 in game one and 5-4 in game two. The Tigers were unlucky to not convert more hits into runs in game two, where they outhit the Lions 13-8. In particular, strong pitching proved a key to Princeton’s success in game two with senior pitcher Chad Powers striking out a season — best seven batters in seven innings work. Senior infielder Cody Phillips had a strong showing in these two games as well, with two hits in the first game and a career-high four hits in the second game, batting a total of 6-7 on the day. Three of these hits were doubles, including the double that led to game one’s opening score. In addition, Phillips scored three of the Tigers’ eight runs, one in the first game and two in the second.

With a win last Saturday at Dartmouth (2-9 overall, 0-4 Ivy), the men’s lacrosse team will now return home for its last home game of the year against Harvard (5-6, 1-3). In addition to senior day festivities, the game will feature ceremonies honoring the 50th anniversary of the 1967 Ivy League-winning team.

After splitting two non-conference games this past week with a win at Stony Brook (5-5 overall) on Saturday and a loss at Lehigh (6-5) on Tuesday, the men’s lacrosse team will be looking to continue what has been a good season so far through the last three regular season games against Dartmouth (2-8 overall, 0-3 Ivy), Harvard (5-5, 1-2), and Cornell (3-7, 2-2).

With two weeks of rest since its last match during spring break against the University of California, Santa Barbara, the men’s tennis team (10-9 overall, 0-0 Ivy League) is getting ready to start its Ivy League play this weekend. Princeton will be looking to improve upon last year’s 2-5 season, when the team earned a sixth-place finish.

The Princeton women’s fencing team entered the 2017 NCAA Championship last weekend with the best track record of any of the competitors over the last six championships, having finished in the top four in each one.

With time winding down and the game tied at 69, Princeton needed someone to step up and score the decisive basket. Enter junior guard Amir Bell. Bell’s drive to the basket and floater with 1.1 seconds left put everyone in Jadwin Gymnasium on the edge of their seats. When the ball came through the hoop, the arena erupted.
