Students crowded Frist North Lawn this Sunday, weathering the second rainy Lawnparties this academic year. The conditions disrupted scheduled activities throughout the day, causing long lines at Ivy Club and an early closure at Tiger Inn. Skeez, the planned opener for headliner Waka Flocka Flame, was a no-show, leaving a DJ from Flame’s personnel to warm up the crowd. Student opener Ziff & Griff performed as scheduled.

The Akan word ‘Sankofa’ means “it is not taboo to fetch what is at risk of being left behind.” Sankofa is often depicted as a mythical bird, with its neck turned backwards, even while it is flying forward. Naming the annual fashion event after this symbol encapsulates the experience of many people among the Black and African diaspora at Princeton: the metaphorical back-turned neck gives them a chance to look back at and engage in their cultures, even while in the Orange Bubble.

The Princeton Peer Health Advisors (PHAs) hosted “The Myth Behind the Freshman 15: Intuitive Eating,” a panel on nutrition, food choice, and wellness earlier this month. The session featured dietitians and psychologists from Undergraduate Health Services (UHS) and Campus Dining.

Despite a gloomy forecast, fall Lawnparties drew crowds of students to the main stage on the Frist North Lawn, who joined in dancing and singing along to the headlining indie rock outfit, Hippo Campus, on Sunday, Sept. 11. Equipped with umbrellas and rain coats, students braved the rain in order to partake in the Princeton tradition.

Princeton-affiliated journalists Jennifer Senior ’91 and Marie-Rose Sheinerman ’23 have been awarded 2022 Pulitzer Prizes for Journalism. The Pulitzer Prize is an award for achievements in newspaper, magazine, online journalism, and literature and musical composition within the United States.

The University announced the winners of the 2022 President’s Achievement Award (PAA), which honors staff members for their “commitment to excellence and exceptional performance.” The six University employee recipients, announced in early April, were Vincent Cuomo, Karla Ewalt, Julie Groeninger, Marty Krzywicki, Mary O’Connor, and Grace K. Penn ’99.

Princeton’s Board of Trustees voted to extend the tenure of President Christopher L. Eisgruber ’83 for “at least five [more] years” on April 9. Eisgruber has served as President of the University since July 2013.

Wind and cloudy skies couldn’t stop “J-Lats,” Princeton’s Jewish-Latinx student organization, from hosting an outdoor “Brazilian Carnival” on Saturday, March 26. The event drew dozens of students to the front yard of Forbes College, where they celebrated Jewish and Latinx communities on campus.

One hundred and ninety eight Princeton faculty demanded a stop to the United States Department of Justice’s (DOJ) China Initiative in an open letter, sent on Oct. 18 to U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland. They claim that the policy disproportionately targets researchers of Asian and Chinese descent, creating a hostile environment that hampers the recruitment of students and postdoctoral scholars.

Over 4,000 attended a Zoom lecture by University of Chicago Associate Professor of Geophysical Sciences Dorian Abbot on “Climate and the Potential for Life on Other Planets” on Thursday, Oct. 21. The event was hosted by the James Madison Program in American Ideals and Institutions (JMP) after it was canceled by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Department of Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS).

On Friday, Oct. 1, Princeton launched its new Venture Forward campaign, which aims to expand alumni engagement and raise funds for upcoming years.
