The USG's budget has ballooned, from $290,000 last semester to of $585,755 dollars for the semester as a starting amount, according to a presentation by USG Treasurer Walker Penfield ‘25. The allocation comes following an increase in student activities fees at the end of the spring semester from $45.50 dollars to $95.50 dollars for the current school year. During the meeting, students learned that fall Lawnparties had received a significant pay bump that also went towards alleviating other student groups’ contributions to food and activities

Students searching for late-night meal options will soon have a new place to go during midnight study breaks or nights out on Prospect Avenue: the Campus Dining food truck. Starting on Thursday, Sept. 21, Campus Dining will open the food truck on the north side of the McCosh Health Center from 11 p.m. to 3 a.m. on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays.

For the third semester in a row, Lawnparties were marked by cloudy skies and sporadic rain. The student opener’s set was canceled due to the forecast and the concert schedule was moved up an hour the day of, but students still turned out for a full day of partying to celebrate the start of the semester.

Princeton is full of peer advisors. There are Residential College Advisors (RCAs), Peer Academic Advisors (PAAs), Peer Health Advisors (PHAs), and more. Many of these advisors are an important resource for first-years, hosting regular study breaks and coffee chats to help with the adjustment to Princeton.

In a week where temperatures hit a sweltering 95 degrees, Housing Operations announced that it would give out fans to students, many of whom live in dorms without air conditioning. On Sept. 7, students flocked to Blair Courtyard to pick up their fans. The pick-ups were not scheduled to begin until 10:30 a.m., yet by 10:10 a.m., all the fans were gone.

The University will be cracking down on the use of personal electric vehicles (PEVs) this academic year. While stopping short of an outright ban, a campus message issued on Friday, Aug. 18 introduced sweeping new restrictions. According to the new policy, PEVs including scooters, bikes, hoverboards, and electric skateboards will be prohibited during “peak hours” of 7:30 a.m. through 4 p.m. on weekdays within a “designated zone.”

Undergraduate students who drew into Walker Hall were alerted via email on July 25 that they would be reassigned to other rooms across campus. According to the email from Associate Director of Student Housing Angie Rooney, Walker Hall “is being re–purposed and will no longer be used to house Undergraduate Students in the fall term.” Walker will now house graduate students.

University faculty approved all eight minors up for consideration, including two new minors in Climate Science and Philosophy, on April 24. Of the six brand-new minor programs approved so far, most are pared-down versions of existing majors, opening the door for students to deeply explore areas of studies without declaring.

Over the past few months, campus has engaged in a debate over whether the high-aspiration environment at Princeton is beneficial to mental health. The debate was prompted after President Christopher L. Eisgruber ’83 said in an interview with the ‘Prince,’ “I think high aspiration environments, and that includes academically rigorous environments, are fully consistent with and helpful to mental health.” While students and administrators have weighed in, faculty members set academic standards that some of the questions are empirically verifiable. This past April was a month of festivities across campus with three major Abrahamic holidays briefly overlapping from April 5 to April 9. Muslim students celebrated their Ramadan fasts together in Murray-Dodge with large iftar meals. The Center for Jewish Life (CJL) hosted multiple Passover seders, where students enjoyed matzah (unleavened bread) and sang late into the night. As Lent came to a close, Christian groups on campus celebrated Easter with services, feasts, and Easter egg hunts scattered across campus.
