Ah, water. That thing we can’t live without, and all that jazz. While we all know that water is essential for functioning, our daily H2O intake isn’t something that many of us think about on a daily basis. Let’s be honest, when you wake up in the morning, the first thing on your mind probably isn’t anything along the lines of: “I’m so excited to drink my daily amount of water today!”

What is it about studying, libraries and papers that make you want to do anything else but deal with them? And by anything else, I mean constant snacking. But snacking, combined with long periods of sitting at a desk, can add up — especially if you’ve been spending long hours in the library working on your R2, JP or of course… the dreaded t-word. So, if you’ve found yourself with a case (or several cases) of the munchies, check out these tips to keep your mind sharp and your body strong.

Ah, the morning workout. Those “morning people” are such overachievers, aren’t they? Chances are, if you’re a night owl, you can barely fathom the thought of getting out of your bed in the morning, let alone dragging your butt to the gym to exercise.

This past weekend officially marked the end of my career as a student-athlete at Princeton. Although I will no longer spend countless hours underground at Jadwin Gym, the personal identitythat I have developed asa student athlete will stay with me forever.

Do you ever look back on your childhood and wonder how you went through each day without a particular food? That’s how I feel about Greek yogurt. (And peanut butter, now that I think of it.) To be honest, I wasn’t even a huge yogurt fan growing up. Unless they were sugary individual packets like “Tubes” or “Minigo,” I wasn't really interested in some fruity goop.

Valentine’s Day. It’s the holiday that isn’t really a holiday; it’s the day single people love to hate. On the flip side, it’s also an excuse to eat tons of heart-shaped chocolates and appreciate the people you love. It’s no secret that restaurants and stores love to promote Valentine’s Day. While flowers, chocolates and expensive dinner dates may be considered the “go-to” romantic splurges, there are in fact a ton of other cheap and awesome activities that can be just as fun (and tasty!). Better yet, the following things can be done with anyone, whether or not your chosen companion is a significant other, friend or family member. So, lace up your snow boots, stash the credit card and get ready for a Valentine’s Day that’s better for your wallet — and your health (no significant other necessary)!

Much of the population makes New Year's resolutions at the beginning of each calendar year. However, for us Princetonians, it seems much more suitable to make resolutions after the crazy and unstructured month of January. Let’s face it — the best of habits are not likely to arise during the stressful period of exams and the blissful week of Intersession. However, it is now February, and with this new month comes a new semester. Looking to make some healthy changes before spring break hits? It’s not too late — you’ve still got about six weeks to commit to clean eating, a new workout regime or whatever it may be. Here are some tips!

I love the holiday season. As soon as Dec. 1hits, I break out my festive sweaters (all two of them), blast Michael Bublé’s “Christmas” album on repeat and replace note-taking in class with intense Pinterest stalking. However, as much as I love these holiday rituals, none of them can compete with the best one of them all: food.

Maybe it’s because there’s only true daylight between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., or maybe it’s because shorts and parkas don’t mix well, but one thing is for sure: Dillon Gymnasium and the towpath get much less crowded during the wintertime. As the weather gets colder, the words “workout,” “gym” and “exercise” seem to be used less and less frequently, and rarely with a cheery tone.
