Princeton was facing overtime for the third time in four games. In a tense back and forth fight, it looked like it may take awhile to see who would land the final blow. The Tigers had other plans; they landed their sucker punch less than a minute into the overtime period, and after the officials confirmed the goal, knocked out the nation’s best team and put the rest of their opponents on notice.

Having won 11 of its last 13 games, including back-to-back blowout victories to end the season, women’s hockey boasts a resume that includes 17 conference victories, a winning percentage of over .800, and two victories over top-five opponents. The team’s success throughout the season earned the Tigers the second seed in the postseason tournament, with a first-round date against 10th-ranked Quinnipiac, and potentially two other top-10 teams lying in wait.

The 17th ranked women’s tennis team traveled to Chicago this weekend to participate in the ITA Indoor Nationals. With three wins already under their belt, expectations were high surrounding the team heading into the weekend against top competition. After a demoralizing 4–0 defeat to No. 7 NC State on Friday, the Tigers rallied to win their next eight matches, four against Arizona State and another four against No. 6 Pepperdine.

On Oct. 1, a federal judge ruled in favor of Harvard University, stating the Ivy League school did not discriminate against Asian-American students in its application process. While the case may be brought before the Supreme Court, for the time being, we can contemplate one of the most interesting behind-the-scenes investigations into the admissions process of an elite school.

Nearly a month has passed since first-years moved onto campus to start their careers as Princetonians. For all of us, the arrival of the school year coincides with the disappearance of most of our free time, and very rarely do you hear students on campus complaining about how they have nothing to do. Yet through the constant running around, all of the lectures, readings, problem sets and extracurricular activities, we sometimes lose sight of the other things around us: those memories that may not mean much now, but before we know it, will become the most important part of our college experiences.

Early-season woes continued for women’s basketball (1–6 overall) over Thanksgiving break. After being swept in the Cancun Challenge, the Tigers have now lost six in a row after their opening night win. Without standout junior guard/forward Bella Alarie in the lineup sidelined by a broken arm, the Tigers have struggled on defense and been exposed by high powered offensive teams.

Many of the fall Princeton sports teams have had great success so far this season. Multiple Tiger teams are ranked — some for the first time — and our teams are playing and competing at an elite level in many different sports. However, quite possibly the best fall storyline to date comes from the women’s soccer team and its incredible run through non-conference play.

The 2017 Princeton athletic season will officially come to a close this weekend as the men’s and women’s crew teams traveling across the nation to attend the IRA championships. After the past three seasons of IRAs being on Mercer Lake, the championships have now made their home on the west coast at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. But each of the Princeton teams attending this weekend has a different storyline and different goals to accomplish.

This weekend the Tigers took Clarke Field for the first time this season. After having a rough opening patch of the schedule, Princeton looked to get back on track with a four-game homestand against Ivy League foes.
