Controversial Charter Guest Policy Reversed: The Charter Club will “not implement the policy” which generated national controversy, according to an email sent on April 2 by Chairman of the Board of Governors of Princeton Charter Club, Rodrigo Menezes ’13. This reverses the March 26 announcement by Charter Club’s President of a new guest policy in a club-wide group chat requiring club members to inform the Club Manager and a student officer of guests they invite during meal hours who were not friends or family “for review.” In the week following the announcement, the policy was debated in Charter’s GroupMe, scrutinized in a Daily Princetonian opinion article, criticized on X, and became the subject of national headlines. In a statement to the ‘Prince’ regarding the event, Menezes emphasized Charter Club “aspire[s] to be among the most inclusive clubs on the street.”

Class Day chairs select Law & Order actor Sam Waterston as 2024 Class Day speaker: In a video message to seniors highlighting his creative career and connections to Princeton, the Class of 2024 Class Day chairs announced that actor Sam Waterston, known for his role in NBC’s “Law & Order,” will be the 2024 speaker for Class Day. Class Day is the day before Princeton’s Commencement and includes speakers who “entertain and advise the class,” according to the Princeton Class of 2024 website, in addition to speeches by students and an awards presentation. Co-chair Julie Levey ’24 likened Waterston’s leaving the role of “Law & Order” district attorney Jack McCoy after 18 years to the Class of 2024 “after 18 years [as] students” being “on the verge of transitions and new adventures.”

OPINION | Make Civil Service Plan A

The Center for Career Development is housed at 36 University Place.
Thomas Buckley / The Daily Princetonian

Good morning! This is Eleanor, the Head Opinion Editor for the ‘Prince.’ I’m from Montgomery County, Maryland, where government jobs are the backbone of the economy. I grew up around civil servants in the NIH, FDA, CDC, and many other agencies. When I got to Princeton, I was struck by how many of my classmates saw limited options beyond consulting and private sector work. In my piece today, I lay out the case for civil service — and the case that Princeton should prepare us for civil service and make it easy for us to go into it. Because there’s work for Princetonians of all majors to do in the government, and working for the government — for your fellow citizens — shouldn’t be a far-off thing that only people in DC do. It should be an honored and chosen plan A for everyone.

On Tuesday night, the No. 14 ranked Princeton men’s lacrosse (7–3 overall, 2–1 Ivy League) defeated the Lehigh Mountain Hawks at Sherrard Field. The Tigers were coming off a win against Dartmouth over the weekend, leaving them with only two days to prepare for Lehigh. In their last matchup in 2017, the Mountain Hawks defeated the Tigers 15-10. The Tigers scored a goal within three minutes of play but faltered when Lehigh switched to a man-to-man defense as the Mountain Hawks began to score. Princeton trailed 5-7 at halftime. In the second half, the Tiger defense tightened up, only allowing three goals while the offense exploded with seven goals. Princeton now has a rest week as they await their next game on Saturday, April 13 against the Brown Bears.

THE PROSPECT | Naacho’s supernatural South Asian fusion sees full house in Richardson

The opening chords of the “Little Einsteins” theme song boomed as the new members of Naacho Dance Company, the 2024 Artists in Residence at Richardson, flooded the stage wearing sparkling red and black outfits. From classical Bollywood to Doja Cat, Princeton’s premiere South Asian dance group Naacho presented a sweeping range of South Asian-based dance and musical styles in their show this past weekend, “Shastra: The Rise of Chaos.” Beyond Naacho’s jaw-dropping live performance, their pre-filmed “filler videos” in between pieces were especially effective in keeping the audience engaged from start to finish while revealing another joking, lively side of the dancers’ personalities. For anyone seeking a night of blood-pumping music and infectious energy, make sure to catch Naacho’s next show.
