Good morning!

On the evening of Nov. 29, Sophia Jones ’27 passed away. Her death was described as “unexpected,” according to an email sent to the campus community by W. Rochelle Calhoun, the Vice President of Campus Life.

Jones was a prospective Molecular Biology major with a certificate in Global Health and Health Policy, as well as a member of Princeton University Ballet, according to a welcoming post on the Princeton University Ballet’s Instagram page. She was also a member of Yeh College and was described as “intelligent, kind, thoughtful, and funny” in an email sent to Yeh College’s community from the Head of the College, Yair Mintzker, and Dean of the College, Alexis Andres. The email highlights her bright presence: “Her life and her light is a testament to her family, to her multiple communities, and to Princeton. We will miss her so very much.”

A gathering of remembrance was held at 7 p.m. on Nov. 30 in the residence of Yeh College Head Yair Mintzker for students to reflect and support each other. Residential colleges are offering community support, such as hosting events where students can gather in remembrance and support of Jones. AnneMarie Luijendijk, Head of New College West, and Stacey Sinclair, Head of Mathey College, are also opening up their homes for students to come together.

The Editorial Board lists their endorsements for candidates in the upcoming Undergraduate Student Government (USG) election, including USG Vice President, Treasurer, Diversity Equity and Inclusion chair, and Social Chair.

Although there is a “lack of choice for voters in selecting the next president of Princeton’s Undergraduate Student Government (USG), there are a plethora of other races in which students can make their voices heard as we collectively envision a better campus,” they write.
