Fleas found at Campus Club

The stairs of Campus Club

Good morning!

Two weeks ago, Campus Club was suddenly closed overnight, with the second floor remaining closed until a few days ago. Sources tell The Daily Princetonian that fleas were the reason for this recent closure.

Student concerns about the infestation mimic other student concerns about infrastructure on campus. The ‘Prince’ published an Opinion piece this month about installing air conditioning in the older buildings that don’t have AC. Although the University has recently demolished First College and are constructing Hobson College, many of the buildings on campus, such as Campus Club, are dated. Additionally, around a decade ago, Forbes and Rocky had separate bed bug infestations; however, the ‘Prince’ has not covered pest infestations in recent years.

Although the presence of pests, such as hornets and more notoriously, cockroaches, is a mainstay around campus, particularly in the older colleges, the closure of Campus Club worried students because of the presence of Coffee Club downstairs, which as a separate piece notes, has become a key part of the campus scene.

The University’s efforts to advance diversity may serve as an example for all institutions in creating a more supportive, accessible learning environment.

The coordinators of Divest Princeton call on Princeton to make good on the promises it made last year: that it would dissociate from 90 coal and tar sands and divest all its direct and indirect holdings in publicly traded fossil fuel companies. They criticize the University for the lack of transparency in the update on the state of the divestment and dissociation initiative. “The University must make good on its past promises, but it must also commit to more ambitious goals to combat the impending and apparent climate crisis,” they wrote.
