Good morning!
Dean of the College Jill Dolan will step down on June 30, 2024 after serving as dean for nearly nine years. Jennifer Rexford ’91, the University Provost, will lead the search committee for a new Dean of the College, though the process is mired in obscurity. Dolan’s decision to step down makes her the fifth Cabinet member of the current University administration to resign this year. Most recently, in 2022, Provost Deborah Prentice was replaced by Rexford, and Katie Callow-Wright took over the position of Executive Vice President, the highest non-academic post, following the departure of Treby Williams ’84. Peer institutions like Yale and Harvard have experienced similarly considerable administrative turnover over the last year.
In today’s story, the Daily Princetonian breaks down the process of selecting a new Dean, declaring plans to select the Dolan's successor by Summer 2024. Historically, the search committee has been composed of eight faculty members and two students. In order to install a new Dean, the search committee must evaluate internally selected candidates and narrow down their options to three faculty members, who are ultimately submitted to President Christopher Eisgruber ’83 for final consideration. The last time a search committee was formed was in 2015, when then Dean of the College Valerie Smith resigned; four months later, Dolan assumed the deanship on June 2nd.
