Arts Council hosts panel on ‘Overlooked History’ of Black artists in Princeton

ARTIST EVENT: On Wednesday, Nov. 30, the Arts Council of Princeton, with funding from the Princeton University Art Museum, hosted a panel discussion titled “Retrieving the Overlooked History of Black Artists in Princeton and Trenton in the Later 20th Century.” The five panelists discussed their role in the local arts community and their work to showcase Black art and art from other historically underrepresented groups. This event accompanies an exhibition on display at the Paul Robeson Arts Center from Oct. 14 to Dec. 3: “Retrieving the Life and Art of James Wilson Edwards and a Circle of Black Artists.”

Opinion | Vote ‘yes’ on USG referendum to support transgender and gender non-conforming students

Guest Contributor Uma Fox discusses the University’s treatment of transgender and gender-non-conforming students, arguing that the existence of “gender-segregated bathrooms” can “force transgender and gender-non-conforming community members to make a daily decision between prioritizing their identities or their need to use the restroom,” in addition to having negative physical and mental health impacts. As a result, Fox is “sponsoring a USG referendum to form a commission to make the majority of our bathrooms gender-neutral.” Fox writes, “It’s clear that our current system places an undue burden on students to self-advocate for what should be guaranteed and cope with the denial of access to basic facilities.”

MEN’S BASKETBALL: Princeton men’s basketball (5–2 overall, 0–0 Ivy League) won against Cairn (4–2, 0–0 Colonial States) with a score of 92–58, increasing their winning streak to five games. This coming Saturday, Princeton will play Drexel (4–4, 0–0 Colonial Athletic) on the road.
