Todays Briefing:

BLACK BEAR HUNT: To reduce “bear damage and nuisance,” the New Jersey Fish and Game Council voted unanimously to reinstate a black bear hunt that seeks to reduce the population. The hunt is set to take place between Dec. 5 and Dec. 10 although it may be extended if 20 percent or less of the state’s estimated population are killed. “While I committed to ending the bear hunt, the data demands that we act now to prevent tragic bear-human interactions,” Gov. Phil Murphy said in an interview with The New York Times earlier this month.

Web development by Vasila Mirshamsova and Yacoub Kahkajian
Using data from multiple sources, Staff Writer Charlie Roth put together a web project displaying every unique score in Princeton football during the modern era, which began in 1912 when the touchdown was increased from five to six points. Inspired by Jon Bois’ original project on the history of the NFL, scorigami show us key moments in Princeton’s football history. As Jerry Price, the historian for Princeton Athletics, puts it, “Princeton football is a real source of pride. Its history is very storied.”

Opinion | The n-word is not your educational tool

Angel Kuo / The Daily Princetonian
In light of a recent controversy on campus in the wake of Professor Joe Scanlan using the n-word in VIS321: Words as Objects, the 146th Editorial Board argues that white professors’ use of the n-word cannot serve an educational purpose, and professors should stop defending it as core to truth-seeking. “There is no good reason for a white professor to use the n-word in the classroom. Time and time again, student experiences have shown that there is no educational or truth-seeking value gained from white professors using the n-word in class,” the Board writes.

MEN’S WATER POLO: Men’s water polo won their second consecutive NWPC title and matched their program record of 26 wins after beating St. Francis Brooklyn with a final score of 13–8. With this win, the Tigers will advance to the NCAA water polo championships. “It is very special, mostly because this is the first class I ever recruited, aside from [senior attacker] Keller [Maloney],” Head Coach Dustin Litvak told The Daily Princetonian after the end of the game. “To see it come full circle with that group … my first recruited class, seeing them come all the way to now being seniors, leaders, and captains, I’m extremely proud.”
