Princeton professors, alumni in Congress respond to Roe v. Wade draft opinion leak

PROFESSORS RESPOND TO LEAKED SCOTUS DRAFT OPINION: The Daily Princetonian spoke with professors in the history and politics departments and the School of Public and International Affairs, as well as alumni in Congress, about their opinions on the leaked draft majority opinion for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization.

CCFA REPORT UNDER EVALUATION BY NASSAU HALL: Princetonians for Free Speech (PFS) recently claimed on their website that the University’s Committee on Conference and Faculty Appeal (CCFA) had upheld an appeal regarding a complaint that the University had unfairly targeted Classics professor Joshua Katz. The complaint, initiated by eight University faculty members, references how Katz’s controversial statement was featured on the first-year orientation website To Be Known and Heard. According to Deputy Spokesperson Michael Hotchkiss, the advisory opinion is being carefully reviewed. No official decision has been released yet and the 'Prince' has not obtained the report.

OPEN LETTER FROM THE WOMEN OF THE CLASS OF ’72: Classmates of Samuel Alito ’72 wrote a letter to the Supreme Court Justice, following the leaked majority opinion regarding Roe v. Wade. The letter states, “We are about to celebrate our 50th reunion — half a century since we graduated from Princeton. We find it bitter indeed to see the draft Supreme Court opinion reverse the strides we thought we were making, as part of one of the first classes of Princeton women, towards a world of equity and fairness for women of all races and social and economic positions.”

EFFECTIVE COMMUNITY SERVICE EFFORTS: Guest contributors Jalen Travis, Zoe Evans, Shakhnoza Salimjonova, and Isabel Schoeman write on behalf of the 2021–2022 Civil Society Service Focus Cohort about the effectiveness of community service efforts at Princeton and their ability to draw in participants. They write that “if the University truly hopes to make civic engagement a central element of life at Princeton, attention needs to be directed towards improving the quality of service opportunities available before increasing the quantity of those opportunities. They argue that higher quality opportunities to participate in meaningful service will allow more students to see the impact of service and inspire them to continue their participation.
