USG HOLDS SPECIAL MEETING OVER CATERPILLAR REFERENDUM: The USG Senate met to discuss and vote on an appeal filed by four Senate members to contest the “actions of [the] Chief Elections Manager” while overseeing the ballot which included Referendum No. 3, related to Caterpillar. Paige Cromley / The Daily Princetonian

As of April 18, 160 University faculty and staff members have called on the University to divest from fossil fuels by the end of the calendar year. These members of the faculty join with “thousands of students and alumni” who have asked Princeton to stop investing in fossil fuels since it was revealed that the University endowment’s total fossil fuel exposure is about $1.7 billion.

“As the world rapidly disengages from carbon-emitting energy sources by clear necessity, we believe it incompatible with the University’s moral principles to seek profit from continued investment in fossil fuels. We thus call on its leaders to adopt a policy of complete divestment during this calendar year, in keeping with the majority of Ivy League peer institutions,” the petition says.

This allows them to plan around the inconveniences of construction such as loud noises and obstructed routes,” she writes. “Yet, as students living on a campus with significant ongoing construction projects, we are not granted the same courtesy.
