Senate confirms Rouse to Biden's Council of Economic Advisors; Arguments for and against revoking the James Madison Award of Sen. Ted Cruz ’92

Todays Briefing: 

On Tuesday, Mar. 2, the Senate approved Cecilia Rouse, former Dean of the School of Public and International Affairs (SPIA), to chair President Joe Biden’s Council of Economic Advisors. The vote was 95–4. Rouse, who previously served on President Barack Obama’s Council of Economic Advisors (CEA) and President Bill Clinton’s National Economic Council, will be the first Black person to serve as the President’s top economic advisor. Rouse’s position as the Dean of SPIA has yet to be filled, however a committee has been formed to search for a new Dean.

Instead, he describes how Cruz’s actions to delegitimize the presidential election have placed American democracy in danger — and he must be held accountable.

“As you can see, deciding to strip Cruz of the James Madison Award is not a partisan matter. He did not protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”
