Professor Keith Wailoo is named Dan David laureate; University suspends employment for international students

Todays Briefing: 

Professor Keith Wailoo was named a laureate of the 2021 Dan David prize for his work on the history of health and medicine. Each year the prize chooses a different field to recognize based on current events, and then awards individuals and institutions based on the theme in three categories: past, present, and future. Professor Wailoo was recognized in the “past” category for his research into the historical intersections of race, science, and health equity

Thanks to the complications of international laws and tax policies, a number of students living abroad this semester can no longer work for the University. This includes Ilia Curto Pelle ’22, a junior who has worked with a special collection of historic coins since his freshman year. Pelle used the extra income to help his parents pay for tuition.

Break-in at Lakeside Apartments

  • An investigation of the break-in at the graduate housing Lakeside apartments on Monday uncovered that a set of master keys was the only thing stolen from the premises. The company that manages the apartments is working to re-key impacted dwellings as quickly as possible.

  • FROM THE PROSPECT: Lillian Chen ’21 tried out four of Princeton’s Eating Clubs: Terrace, Tower, Colonial, and Cap. In each one, Chen learned things about herself, her relationships, and the campus culture. She writes that a “place doesn’t just become a home once you enter it — it takes lots of effort, time, and commitment.” Read her reflections.
