I fear that the FDA’s ban is now driven by discrimination, not data. Implicit in the policy is an egregiously unjust double standard. Two HIV-negative men in a committed, monogamous relationship (maybe even a marriage, dare I say it) are banned from donating blood for life. A heterosexual male who has sex with an HIV-positive female would be banned for 12 months, at most.

As leaders in our eating clubs, we would like to take this Pride Week to recommit and reaffirm our constant goal of ensuring that people of all backgrounds, experiences and orientations have a safe and fun outlet in all of the eating clubs.

In spite of the sterility of the gay community’s image, we are still absorbing the radicalism that began the gay rights movement and the more moderate radicalism of today’s gay community.

We are in a world where self-misrepresentation is a norm, where affairs, beliefs and insults are swept under the table to avoid conflicts.
