When the women’s lacrosse team took the field against Duke in the first round of this season’s NCAA Division I Tournament in Annapolis, Md., on Friday, few outside observers thought that the No. 17 Tigers (10-7 overall, 6-1 Ivy League) would be able to defeat the No. 8 Blue Devils. However, Princeton gave Duke (14-5, 2-4 ACC) a run for its money, forcing a tie game at the end of regulation that sent the match into overtime. It was not until the second overtime period that the Blue Devils finally netted the game-winning goal, when midfielder Maddy Acton fired an accurate finish with 5:15 left to play in the sudden-death overtime period.

The second-seeded women’s lacrosse team’s quest for the Ivy League championship ended Friday night after a grueling double-overtime loss to third-seeded Dartmouth in the first round of the Ivy tournament. Though Princeton (10-6 overall, 6-2 Ivy League) narrowly beat Dartmouth (10-6, 6-2) just two weeks ago, 15-13, the Big Green came ready to fight, and the score was close the entire game — it was tied seven times. -

| May 02, 2013The women’s lacrosse team will face off against Dartmouth for the second time this season on Friday in the first round of the Ivy League Tournament. The Tigers (10-5 overall, 6-1 Ivy League) met the Big Green (9-6, 5-2) for the first time this season two weeks ago and emerged victorious with a close 15-13 win. The two teams were very evenly matched, with the score tied seven times throughout the course of the game. Princeton won the first seven draw controls and took a 5-1 lead, but fell behind late in the game and pulled out the victory thanks to three straight goals with less than five minutes left.

On a sunny Saturday afternoon in front of a packed stadium, the women’s lacrosse team pulled off an upset of No. 6 Penn State in its final game of the regular season, winning 14-9. The No. 18 Tigers (10-5 overall, 6-1 Ivy League) finish the regular season undefeated on their home turf.
