A collection of watercolor paintings and drawings that had been sitting unidentified for 60 years in the University Library’s Manuscripts Division has been recognized by University of Reading professor Anna Gruetzner Robins as the work of renowned 20th century Welsh artist Gwen John.

Princeton Public Library patrons will soon be able to visit Firestone and other University libraries once a month. Announced on Monday, the Firestone Library Cards program will let Princeton Public Library members reserve passes for Firestone and other University libraries every month.

Harvard University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have joined Princeton and the other six Ivy League schools in the Borrow Direct partnership. The merge will give patrons access to over 50 million items, an increase from the 30 million previously available through the partnership.

A large crowd gathered under the tents outside the Princeton Public Library on Sunday afternoon, where they cheered, applauded and sang a collective “Happy Birthday” to the library, which was celebrating its 100-year anniversary with a cake shaped like a stack of children’s books.

Book collecting is a common pastime — but rather than just gathering dust, books can earn University students thousands of dollars. The Friends of the Princeton University Library annually awards several undergraduates the Elmer Adler Undergraduate Book Collecting Prize, which is open to undergraduates who collect any item generally found in a library. Candidates for the prize submit an essay describing their collection, along with a bibliography listing of all its pieces.
