The Robertson case was a nationally watched lawsuit over control of the Robertson Foundation's endowment, valued at close to $1 billion. The foundation was endowed with $35 million in 1961 by Charles '26 and Marie Robertson to support the Wilson School's graduate program and place its graduates in federal government jobs.

The plaintiffs in the suit — who were the children of the original donors — argued that, over time, the University had surreptitiously diverted millions of dollars of the Robertson Foundation's money to uses outside the intent of the foundation's original charter. They sought the return of $207 million that they said was improperly diverted, with an additional $300-$400 million in investment returns on that money. They also sought to break the foundation's ties with the University and allow it to make donations elsewhere.

For six years, twin phalanxes of highly trained attorneys fought bitterly over the money, spending tens of millions of dollars in the process. On Dec. 10, 2008, the University announced that it had settled the case with the Robertson family plaintiffs for $50 million plus legal fees.

Below is the entirety of the 'Prince's' news coverage on the case to date, starting with the most recent. To the right, the biggest stories, tracing the case's evolution from beginning to end.
