On Jan. 25, Dean of the College Jill Dolan and Dean of the Graduate School Rod Priestley sent a memo to the University faculty offering guidance for regulating the usage of Artificial Intelligence (AI). The memo outlines the University’s philosophy pertaining to the academic usage of text-based AI such as ChatGPT, a new chatbot software that can generate human-like text responses and has generated discussion on its use and academic integrity.

In May, the University’s Director of Athletics was “incredibly excited” to announce a new hire for the department: Jordan “JT” Turner, who would be joining the University as the inaugural Associate Director of Athletics for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI). Turner’s role was intended to “create and maintain a culture of mutual respect and unity” and oversee “all aspects of DEI education and training for student-athletes, coaches and staff with Princeton Athletics,” according to a University announcement.

On Thursday, Dec. 15, Princeton admitted single-choice early action (SCEA) round applicants to the Class of 2027. Consistent with the University’s decision last spring to refrain from releasing applicant statistics for the Class of 2026 and beyond, the University did not release its acceptance rate.

Rev. Dr. Jonathan Lee Walton will begin his term as the first Black and the first Baptist President of the Princeton Theological Seminary (PTS) on Jan. 1. Walton is also an alum of the Seminary, earning a Ph.D. in 2006 and M.Div. in 2002.

On Dec. 1, high school students across the country were admitted to the University via the QuestBridge National College Match. In keeping with an announcement made earlier this year, the University has not released admissions statistics about the Class of 2027, according to an email from University Spokesperson Michael Hotchkiss, including the number of QuestBridge recipients.

On Wednesday, Nov. 16, Dr. Uyi Stewart, Chief Data and Technology Officer at Data.org, delivered a lecture in Robertson Hall titled “Data Science: The New Frontier in Global Health and Development,” that revolved around the potential of data science to address a sprawling range of contemporary global issues, including infectious diseases, economic vulnerabilities, drug treatments, and healthcare access, among other pressing areas of importance.
