As a captain of the women’s softball team who will begin their quest to defend their 2022 Ivy League regular-season crown on Feb. 24, senior outfielder Serena Starks has shown tremendous leadership on the field. However, Starks’ legacy is defined not only by her athletic success, but also by her commitment to disability awareness, community service, and creating spaces for Asian student-athletes.

As of Wednesday morning, talks between Southampton and former Leeds United manager Jesse Marsch ’96 had broken down due to disagreements on the length of his contract. The club was only willing to offer him a short-term contract — Marsch was hoping for a longer one.

After being sacked by English Premier League (EPL) club Leeds United last Monday, Jesse Marsch ’96 is on course to be hired as the new manager of league foe Southampton. Marsch is the third managing hire of the season for the struggling club. Notably, Marsch beat out prominent names like former Aston Villa manager Steven Gerrard, former Everton manager Frank Lampard, and former Wolverhampton manager Nuno Santo for the position.

Heading into the weekend, men’s ice hockey (11–14–0 overall, 7–11–0 ECAC) had a prime opportunity to move into fifth place in the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) with matchups against St. Lawrence (15–15–0, 10–8–0) and Clarkson (13–14–3, 7–9–2). Unfortunately for the Tigers, however, two tough losses sent them plummeting into seventh place in the ECAC.

On Saturday, Feb. 4, senior wide receiver Andrei Iosivas participated in the Reese’s Senior Bowl, a showcase of the best National Football League (NFL) draft prospects in the nation. Following in the footsteps of Hollie Donan ’51 and Caraun Reid ’14, Iosivas is the third Tiger to play in the Senior Bowl and the first Ivy League representative since 2016.

After a disappointing loss to Yale on Jan. 28, the men’s basketball team (16–6 overall, 7–2 Ivy League) used a second half comeback to take down Cornell (15–7, 5–4) in a 89–82 victory at Jadwin Gymnasium on Feb. 3. The following evening, the Tigers comfortably took care of business against the Columbia Lions (6–18, 1–8) in a 88–66 win to top the Ivy League standings with five games remaining in the regular season.

On Saturday, Jan. 28, the women’s basketball team (14–5 overall, 5–2 Ivy League) solidified their place as the best scoring defense in the Ivy League, defeating Yale (10–10, 4–3) by a 49-point margin, 79–30. The Bulldogs’ 30 points was their lowest-scoring game since 2005 and the lowest final score by an Ivy League team, in or out of season, since 2020.
