Course enrollment is always a stressful process at Princeton. Early in the morning, students pry open their eyes to enroll in courses through Tigerhub. Those interested in Visual Arts (VIS) classes may face particular difficulties enrolling, as the classes fill rapidly. Why are VIS classes so difficult to get into? Ahead of Fall 2024 course enrollment, Professor Jeff Whetstone, the head director of Princeton’s Visual Art Department, might have some answers.

President of Tower Club Vincent Jiang ’25 was elected as Interclub Council (ICC) President on Monday, March 18, according to a press release from the ICC. Jiang is the first ICC President to also be the President of Tower Club since Martin Scheeler ’11, who was elected to both positions in 2010. The ICC elections follow new officer regimes taking over the 11 eating clubs that line Prospect Avenue.

As construction continues across campus, overnight work has been occurring on the site of the new Frist Health Center. While the Princeton Town Ordinance limits the hours construction can occur to between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., the University is exempt. A resident of Scully Hall, Julia Zhou ’24, noticed and reported the late-night work to Public Safety (PSAFE) on two separate occasions since the start of spring break, telling The Daily Princetonian that the late-night noise and light are disruptive.

For many Princeton students, “course offerings day,” the day when classes for the following semester are posted by the Registrar, can be a day of frenzied excitement. This year, some celebrated three days early when a post from the morning of Monday, March 25 on the social media app Fizz claimed to leak Princeton’s fall 2024 course offerings. Courses are set to be officially released on Thursday, March 28.

Over spring break, two groups traveled to Silicon Valley and New York City through the AI TigerTrek and New York TigerTrek, respectively, both sponsored by the Princeton Entrepreneurship Club. TigerTrek is a series of trips over academic breaks which gives students the opportunity to have intimate conversations with creatives and entrepreneurs in various industries. The AI TigerTrek comes at a time of growing focus on artificial intelligence (AI) at the University and beyond.

On Feb. 25, Monica Fung-Janardhan was named successor to Amy Ham Johnson as Rockefeller College’s new Assistant Dean for Student Life (ADSL). Johnson left her role as ADSL to become the University’s Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Students.

On Friday nights, Chabad’s Princeton community makes the walk to 128 Nassau Street and descends to the carpeted basement room where they host Shabbat dinners. Chabad has occupied this space for the past two years while renovating their typical residence at 15 Edwards Place. Finally, after two years of renovations and expansion to the property, Chabad will host its first Shabbat dinner in the new residence — an 8,400 square foot space that Rabbi Eitan Webb hopes will be a space of joy and community on campus.

On Monday, nearly 60 of the Princeton's Muslim students broke their fast together at the first community iftar (sunset meal) since they returned to campus following spring break. The meal, held in McCosh 28 and hosted by the Office of Religious Life (ORL), the Muslim Student Association (MSA), and the Projects Board, represented the first of many efforts to foster community and increase accessibility to halal meals and community spaces during Ramadan this year.

A new exhibit at the Milberg Gallery in Firestone Library celebrates the work of Mexican modern artist Ulises Carrión Bogard, focusing on his reimagination of what a book could look like, mean, and do. According to a post on X from @PULibrary, the “exhibition [is] the largest U.S. retrospective exhibition of [Carrión]’s work to date.”

As 2024's Leap Day drew to a close, students crowded the first floor of Campus Club in celebration of this once-in-an-undergraduate-experience opportunity. Surrounded by hundreds of stuffable frog plushies, paintable frog statues, and a three-tier, frog-themed cake, Campus Club was awash in green decorations, courtesy of the Princeton Student Events Committee (PSEC).

Six of Princeton’s 11 eating clubs, including all Bicker clubs, recently held their undergraduate officer elections. Four of the five sign-in clubs — Cloister Inn, Charter Club, Terrace Club, and Quadrangle Club — held their elections in November of last year. One of these incoming eleven presidents will soon be elected president of the Interclub Council (ICC).

Brian Li ’24 and Casey Beidel ’24 were both awarded the 2024 Pyne Prize last week. The award, presented at Alumni Day on Saturday, Feb. 24, is the highest general distinction given to undergraduates.

Members of the Princeton University community received a TigerAlert on Friday, Feb. 23 about an email sent to multiple community members containing threats against the Jewish community on campus. According to the alert, members of other U.S. university communities received identical emailed threats.

After 19 months of closure and a delay due to “unforeseen circumstances” related to the shipment of materials to the construction site, the Campus Recreation Pool at Dillon Gymnasium reopened on Feb. 16. This marks another step towards the completion of phase one of Campus Recreation’s renovation project, which includes the renovation of the Class of 1986 Fitness and Wellness Center, which opened on Jan. 29, and new athletics facilities in the Meadows Neighborhood. The redesigned pool will allow for the return of open rec swim hours, Princeton Swim Club, and Campus Rec-sponsored activities, and prompted the revival of the annual Cardboard Canoe Race.
