The brand-new action comedy “Drive-Away Dolls” opened at the Princeton Garden Theatre on Friday, March 22 as part of the USG Movie Committee’s ongoing early release series. Based on my observations, the film had a notably lower attendance rate than past USG-sponsored movies, potentially because of ongoing midterms or the film’s mixed early reviews.

As the Jan. 7 Golden Globes kicked off the 2024 awards season, the movie “Saltburn” seemed to be on everyone’s mind. Entertainment Weekly called the film a “perverse, psychosexual thriller of the highest order,” featuring startling scenes of bathtubs, graves, and a celebratory dance number (if you know, you know). From its prominence on TikTok to its trending soundtrack featuring MGMT’s “Time to Pretend” and Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s “Murder On The Dancefloor,” “Saltburn”’s popularity has persisted long after its Nov. 17 limited release in theaters.

After a competitive vice presidential election, Srista Tripathi ’25 secured the position against Chase Magnano ’25 and Warren Shepherd ’27. The winter 2023 Undergraduate Student Government (USG) elections are the most contested elections since at least 2013, and the Class of 2025 Senator race is no exception with six candidates. With the departures of Ned Dockery ’25 and Braiden Aaronson ’25 from the senate, both seats are open. This contested election stands in contrast to previous years as the senior class senator role is usually uncontested. Not including this year, this role has been contested only one time in the last decade.

“How are people talking about USG now?” That question headlined a slide as the Undergraduate Student Government (USG) met for its final weekly meeting of the semester on Sunday, Dec. 3. This marks the last such meeting under President Stephen Daniels ’24, as the next president will have taken the office by the time meetings resume in January. In the first meeting of his presidency on Feb. 6, he said he hoped that, by the end of his term, the way students talk about USG would be “meaningfully different.”

Candidates for Undergraduate Student Government (USG) vice president Chase Magnano ’25, Srista Tripathi ’25 and Warren Shepherd ’27 faced off in the first-ever vice-presidential debate co-hosted by The Daily Princetonian and Whig-Clio. This marks a change from the traditional presidential debate given that the role of president stands essentially uncontested, with Avi Attar ’25 as the presumptive president-elect, though Braiden Aaronson ’25 will also be listed on the ballot.

Less than a day into campaigning, one of two candidates for Undergraduate Student Government (USG) president withdrew from the race. This leaves only one campaigning candidate for president for the first time since at least 2013.

On Wednesday, the student body received an email: more than half of the elected positions for the upcoming USG winter elections were uncontested, meaning that either the position had the exact number of candidates running as there were positions to fill or, as was true in at least one case, no candidates were running at all.
