Film Review - To-See Documentaries of All Shapes and Sizes

Amid the colorful landscape of Miami in all its glitz and glam, huddled in the corners are a few independent cinemas. Not movie theaters, but film theatres, places to watch films that might just make you think a little bit. The films range from Woody Allen to stupid horror flicks to Before Midnight to documentaries. And it was these documentaries that really shaped my two month, film-watching experience in Miami.

Music – 'Yeezus' vs. 'Magna Carta Holy Grail'

This summer for rap was one of the most exciting in recent years. The highlights started off with J. Cole dropping his much-anticipated Born Sinner, which garnered rave reviews. Then we had Kendrick Lamar tell off half of the rap community: Wale, Mac Miller, Drake, and Big Sean, just to name a few. Who was the genius who let Kendrick be a feature and call out all these rappers? None other than the aforementioned Big Sean: the man got murdered on his own track. I have no idea where to start with Big Sean. Kendrick’s "Control" verse dominated the twitter-sphere and elicited some awesome responses. Despite all of this, clearly two albums dominated the summer: Yeezus and Magna Carta Holy Grail.

Film Review – 'Spring Breakers'

Spring Breakers premiered almost six months ago, and yet its allure is as strong as the day the teaser trailer first appeared on YouTube. Something about this film has launched it to cultural-phenomenon-status, be it the ex-Disney stars, the plethora of bikinis, or the irresistibly bright aesthetic. Spring break is an eternal concept beloved by many, and this film both glorifies and condemns it. Whether the film deserves the hype it has received is still being debated . . .

Music - Sky Ferreira Takes the Night

Sexy. Dark. Grunge. Recently arrested for possession, but promptly released. Sky Ferreira. As a young artist she released her first EP, As If!, in 2011 at the age of 19 and her more popular EP, Ghost, in late 2012. In a matter of 2 years, this girl has gained an amazing amount of fame with only a few songs released. On October 29th, her DEBUT album, Night Time, My Time, will be released and Sky fans will rejoice! I know my friends and I will be ECSTATIC to hear what this angel of music has created. Hit the jump for more info on Night Time, My Time and how Sky is going to take over the night!

Film - Summer Favorites

From Iron Man 3 and Fast & Furious 6 to Star Trek Into Darkness and Man of Steel, this summer had its fair share of trilogies, franchises, sequels, and reboots. But amidst the fast cars, superheroes, and supervillains of the summer, two other trilogies came to an end. These were not blockbuster movies; in fact, these two trilogies offer a refreshing departure from typical Hollywood trilogies. Read on to find out what movies these were and why they were my favorite films of the summer.
