Robby Andrews, assistant men's track and field coach at the University, qualified for the men’s 1500m semifinal when he finished third in his heats. His time of 3:46.97 puts him in 27thplace overall. Jakub Holusa of Czech Republic, who finished first in the heats, posted a time of 3:38.31. Read more about the event here.

Despite a 2-1 victory over Germany in the preliminary matches on Day 4 of the Games, Diana Matheson ’08 and the rest of her Canadian soccer team fell 2-0 to the German squad in the semifinals of the event. Matheson only played the last thirty minutes of the match. This loss ended Canada’s undefeated streak at the tournament. Canada will now face Brazil on Friday for the bronze medal. In the preliminaries of the event, Canada and Brazil were the two highest ranked teams in each of their groups, with 9 and 7 points respectively.

As Day 11 draws to a close, three University Olympians and two assistant coaches still remain in contention for medals at Rio.

10:55 a.m. EDT: Donn Cabral ’12 will compete in the men’s 3000m steeplechase finals. He finished third overall in the heats on Monday.

3:30 p.m. EDT: Ashleigh Johnson ’17 will goal keep for Team USA against Hungary in the women’s water polo semifinals.
