News & Notes: Town, church will hold public meeting on immigration changes

The town of Princeton has partnered with St. Paul's Catholic Church, located on Nassau Street, to hold various information sessions for the public and its Latino congregation at the church regarding President Barack Obama’s executive actions to delay the deportation of millions of undocumented immigrants, according to The Princeton Packet.

St. Paul’s Catholic Church holds many of its evening masses in Spanish for its large Latino congregation, while the town of Princeton itself has a Latino population that has doubled to 2,392 since 1990.

Princeton has protected many undocumented immigrants from immigration authorities, and the town council has created numerous programs to protect immigrants from wage theft by their employers.

One of many facets of the executive action is changes to the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which would delay deportation for an additional three years for younger immigrants who arrived in the U.S. before their sixteenthbirthday and have lived in the U.S. since Jan. 1,2010.

Delays are also extended to the parents of these children but with certain prerequisites.
