News & Notes: Over 30 contract gastrointestinal disease over Thanksgiving weekend

Over 30 individuals reported gastrointestinal diseases to the Princeton Health Department between Thanksgiving Day andTuesday, Planet Princeton reported. According to Princeton Health Officer Jeffrey Grosser, all 30 individuals ate at the Yankee Doodle Tap Room restaurant inside Nassau Inn. However, many individuals also visited other food providers during this time.

In response, the Princeton Health Department conducted an inspection of the Nassau Inn, which revealed minor issues. According to Grosser, the findings were not the source of the illness.

Laboratory experiments have not confirmed the cause of the gastrointestinal disease uptick. However, Grosser explained that norovirus infection is suspected in most of reported cases based on observed symptoms. Norovirus, a common cause of gastrointestinal illness, spreads through food workers and is especially prevalent in winter.

Most individuals who had contacted the Health Department had recovered byMonday.
