News & Notes: 43 students linked to cheating scandal in Dartmouth religion class

Forty-three Dartmouth students are being investigated for academic dishonesty after religion professor Randall Balmer found that the number of students digitally submitting answers to in-class questions on Oct. 30was different from the number of students present in class that day, according to The Dartmouth.

The class is entitled “Sports, Ethics and Religion.”

The accused students met with Balmer and judicial affairs director Leigh Remy to discuss their rights and potential disciplinary action.

Several students told Balmer that there were cheating incidences on the online midterm examination, though he clarified that students could not click out of the exam to search answers on the Internet.

It is unclear as to whether the 43 students will be removed from the class.

Disciplinary action could include suspensions, reprimands and separation.
