Five Harvard alumni won seats in Congress in Tuesday’s midterm elections, keeping the University in first place among schools with the greatest number of alumni to serve in Congress, according to data gathered from Find the Best.

A ranking of schools with the largest number of alumni in Congress was originally released by Find the Best in 2012 following the election of the 113thCongress. The ranking placed Harvard first in the rankings, with 47 alumni having served in Congress at the time.

Of the five recently elected Harvard alumni, only two have won bids for the first time, bringing the number of Harvard associated alumni in Congress to 49.

However, several of the Harvard-affiliated alumni also attended Princeton, including Rep. John Sarbanes ’84 of Maryland, and Rep. Terri Sewell ’86 of Alabama.

Yale was ranked third behind Georgetown in 2012, while Princeton did not appear in the top 10.

Princeton had seven alumni in Congress following the 2012 elections.
