News & Notes: Natural gas pipeline to be taken out of service

Pipeline company Williams agreed to take its existing natural gas pipeline in the Princeton Ridge out of service while a new 42-inch pipeline is constructed during the next four to six weeks, The Princeton Packet reported. The company would meanwhile run high-pressured water through the line.

Williams spokesman Christopher L. Stockton said the decision to take the pipeline out of service was in response to safety concerns expressed by the Princeton community during the pipeline’s installation. The outage will only affect the Princeton section of the work area.

The change will also require extended work hours, including some Sundays. Because the town currently only allows work from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday and not on Sunday, the Princeton Council will need to waive current work-time rules.

The Princeton Ridge Coalition, a nonprofit citizens group formed in response to the project, said last week that it would meet with residents to discuss the issue of longer work hours.
